What insurance to get?
So I plan on being abroad for around four months and I really think I need some insurance. For some reason, shit always seems to follow me around... even though I am very healthy and not accident prone - some insurance could be good.
I am looking at this from Travel Cuts:
Plan A: Baggage + Personal Effects (including lost ticket/passport) + Medical Expenses + Personal Accident + Trip Cancellation/Interruption ($5000 before departure and $5000 after departure included) excluding coverage for the USA Worldwide excluding USA is: $ 249 CAD
Plan B: Medical Expenses + Personal Accident + Trip Cancellation/Interruption ($5000 before departure and $5000 after departure included) excluding coverage for the USA Worldwide excluding USA is: $ 136 CAD
Plan D: Medical Expenses + Personal Accident excluding coverage for the USA Worldwide excluding USA is: $ 135.7 CAD
And am leaning to plan B. I am taking a lot of stuff with me, like a cheap laptop, digital cam, Mp3 player, etc.... but I think the likelyhood of it being destroyed/etc is low. Any inputs on travel insurance??
THANKS!

Well, definitely get something. Trip cancellation is a VERY good idea. You may never need it, but if you get sick, it's nice to have that cushion. Check to see whether your renter's/homeowner's insurance policy covers your stuff in more than one location - they often do, and then you wouldn't need the coverage in Plan A. It's worth calling your broker or insurance company to clarify the coverage, if you don't clearly understand the policy.

Bought travelcuts.com insurance...
trip cancellation + medical. 4 months initially costs about $140 CAD.
Just FYI.

ok this is way late since you already bought, but I used AIG Travel Guard and loved them. They covered practically everything (emergency airlift evacuation....scuba diving...massages (to a max of $150 I believe, lol) and were quite cheap for 7 months in Africa. It was around $300.
edited to add: although I didnt have to make a claim so I don't know how they are in that department

I found one I think on Travelguard as well for 180 for the year! I'm sure the coverage is lacking, but I'm definitely planning on leading the fine print before my trip to Oz.

Hi all
As backpacker insurance is really needed. Any mishap can be occured. Backpacking to foreign countries without backpacker insurance can be risky.

Hi Ankita
I agree with you, Yes any bad circumstance can come during any visit so if we don't have any travel insurance like backpacking travel insurance, annual travel insurance or single trip insurance than it can be risky for us.

What insurance to get?
Rates of travel insurance varies based on the coverage provided. Looking at the various plans I also think that plan B is the most suitable plan as its coverage is greater. This is because while you are in foreign territory, you must have proper travel insurance as you never know what will happen on your travels. Travel insurance will cover all the risks involved.
