Default Which city to visit in Autumn?

Hi, I'm a newbie.

I am from Asia, but now I am working for a year in Norway.

I am planning to backpack around Europe in 3 weeks.

I like to see Europe in AUTUMN. So which month is the best for an "Autumn backpacking"? Should I start in September or October?

And which city and country do you suggest me? My favourite is Paris, Roma, Venice, Amsterdam and London. But I don't know if they are similar, I am looking for some thing very different among the cities I choose to visit.

Thank you very much.
Have a nice day.

Welcome to the boards! If you want to see different cities, I recommend Moscow. Its very different from anywhere in western Europe. It all depends on what you like. If you backpack Europe during this time you could go to Oktoberfest in Munich!

I think Oktoberfest is a great idea! That's something I've always wanted to do... go for it if you get a chance.

I've not traveled anywhere besides summer or winter but my best friend is a huge Paris fan, and she's been there several times all 4 seasons and said by far her favorite time to see Paris was in the autumn.

But I am with everyone else on Munich. I've seen pictures of the Englischer Garten and I'm about to go to Munich in 10 days or so, and I can only imagine what it would look like in the autumn... and the whole Black Forest area of Germany - I bet it's amazing, when the leaves turn.

I studied in Paris in the autumn of 2004 and thought it was nice weather wise but that part Europe in general can be a tad on the damp side.
Munich would have the benefit of Okotberfest if thats what you're in to.
I say go to Berlin just because I think that Berlin is worth seeing anytime of year.

Welcome! I think Autumn in Italy is wonderful. I wasn't 100% sure from your message if you've been to those favorite cities you list, or not. If not, then I highly recommend Rome and Venice. To me, Venice is still the most beautiful city in the world. Just be sure you spend at least a couple nights there and experience it after the day trippers have all gone home. And there is so much to see in Rome.

So, I vote for Italy...

I'll put a vote in for any German city, just cause that's where I was in Autumn of 06 and it was gorgeous. perfect weather and lots of fun!

My friends, how nice you are!

So autumn is great!

Is it September better or November?

Unless you go to southern Europe, my vote goes for September or October. Otherwise, it will most likely be cold, and the landscape be sad and grey.
