Send a PM to blinkchick2134. She's WOOFed in Costa Rica & is planning on doing more in the near future. She doesn't have very good internet access right now though, so she may not get your PM before you have to leave.

Can you mail some heavier stuff to your address that you'll be working at? Oh, and double check with the airline on the bag limits. Take the biggest you can for the work clothes. Then, when you finish with the work portion, maybe you can sell (or give) your used work clothes to another worker? Or mail them back home...?

Either way, don't feel the need to conform to the backpacking standards of packing light and small. You're doing a specialized type of trip, so your packing requirements are different. You wouldn't go on a ski trip without your skis, or a golf trip without your golf bags.

So, pack what you think you might need (and what the airline won't charge you extra for...).

When I was WWOOFing the farm I was on had washers so I could of easily taken only one pair of work clothes and washed them every few days. For winter weather, depending on your level of what's adequate hygiene, I suggest 2 pairs of long johns and a thick layer of work strength clothing. Depending on the type of farm/s your visiting. Maybe a strong pair of knee reinforced khakis and a long sleeve well-stitched shirt. A good hat that covers your ears, a decent coat and buy a cheap pair of stretchy kids gloves and snip the finger tips off (you can pull thicker clothes over top if you need it but the finger tips being off help with gripping while keeping you hand warm).

Like Mike said don't feel the need to pack like a backpacker, working while traveling requires extra equipment! Good luck!
