patchouli Lover

Ok so cruises really aren't my idea of how to travel. I would much rather submerge myself into a culture, than do the typical touristy thing. That being said I have some Swedish friends who I have not seen in years and they want to meet up in Feb or so for a cruise around the Mediterranean.

So since I really want to see them I'm willing to shell out huge amounts of cash and put on a name tag that creams "tourist!"

So what I was wondering if any of you guys know any unique/ different/ cool cruise lines. I figure if I have to do one I would like to do one that offers more than a big boat and 5 star buffets. I know I could google it, but I was hoping someone here had some experience or advice.
