Anyone ever been to the Baltics? of to Finland or neighboring Russia? Im interested, but have no idea what to expect. Anything that pertains would be helpful. Thanx

Ozpacka, such good advice you had to offer it twice, eh?

The first thing I'd say about the Baltics is expect them to be cold, if you're traveling in the "shoulder" seasons (or winter, of course). Lithuania was quite a surprise to me...it was in the 50s back home, and we landed and there was snow on the ground and bitter wind.

The Baltic countries I've been to are all really neat...lots of cool churches -- especially the Russian orthodox ones. As a matter of fact, we spent one day in Vilnius just tramping around town checking out all the cool cathedrals, churches, monasteries, etc.

Alexander Nevsky church in Estonia

The people are a tad more reserved than some countries, but friendly once you break the ice. They're pretty good looking, too, I'd say. Especially, the Estonians.

Anyway, you'll find Russian more useful than English in some of them, but I've heard it can also be political incorrect to speak to people in it, in some places. I didn't run into that, and my traveling buddy's Russian was incredibly useful in Lithuania. The Finns speak English, so that'll be easy. As for Estonia, I was only in Talinn, so can't really say what it's like outside of there. Enough cruise ships stop in Talinn that English will do you fine.

Feel free to ask any questions...
