Question Do I move out or Travel for 12 months?

So heres the deal
I still live at home with my parents, as my boyfriend does with his dad - We are are desperate to move out. - But as of last year we went to america and caught the travel bug big time - Now we really want to go on a 12 month trip but not sure what to do move out then wait a couple more years to travel (the thought of waitinng a couple of years is horrible though) - or go on a 12 month trip and come back to my parents (unless obviously we find somewhere we wish to get a visa for ;-) )

EEEEEEEEEEEEE BY GUM!
Either way gunna have to save for a bit of a while

also a quick quetion bout getting work abroad - is it feasible - i mean how simple/complicated is it to get a tempjob as a backpacker abroad?

xx

p.s aint been on this forum in a long time but it's looking goo and I'm glad to be back

Where are you from? If you are a Canadian, Brit, Kiwi, or Aussie, I think you have reciprocal work programs with other countries.

aye its alright to get a job abroad if yoru a brit, depends what your looking for. casual bar work, seasonal farming and so on is easliy found if you look/contact right people, good for grounding yourself somewhere for a few months but pay is nominal will keep you going but not enough to get a ticket onwards. if your looking for something a bit more permenant or somethin that will earn you a bit more i cant really advise you

as for your decision, fuck the house and go travelling. it will be the best thing you ever did, and you may find yourself settled somewhere else saving your money for a flat back home (if you wish to return). housing isnt going to get any cheaper in the UK but its so fuckin expensive youll be saving a LONG TIME. go backapcking and see the world beofre the price of that is out of reach then worry about th house when yous get back. travelling will also test and solidify your relationship, it will be a good way to find out if yous are ready to move in together and how it will be when you do

Thank you. well we survived 11 weeks of each other 24/7 last year - and believe me we had alot of problems which arrose in those 11 weeks so emotions where all over the show - but hey we are still together (and have been for 5 years :D)
You raise good points about fuck the house just travel.
But how much do you rekon is a suitable amount to leave off with - obviously i wouldn't want to go straight in to work i would want to put working off as long as possible but hey i dont mind what i do as long as i am pyshically capable of doing it I will do ya know.

I've never really thought about how much would be a good idea to take away if you're intending on getting a job. But I thought about it just now, and I reckon I would try and take at least 3 or 4 grand. That way you've got enough money to comfortably last you a good few weeks (staying in hostels, obviously once you're earning, you're gonna want somewhere more long-term), and you're not going to get into a real emergency if you don't get a job straight away.

I dunno though, perhaps someone who has actually done this before should answer!

I was thinking about 6 grand between us we could get quite far without having to worry about a job straight away. But eugh HOW long would it take me to save that grrr haha (I am impatient hehe)
