I need to get a bag asap! I saw a plain North Face backpack that was medium sized (Slightly larger than a school backpack) and I just bought this cheap weekend duffel bag by Samsonite (slings on one shoulder)....if I used both for carrying my clothes, books, shoes, toiletries, and room for stuff to take back to the US- would it be too much? Should I just stick with my Samsonite bag? Or should I splurge on the backpack as well and use the backpack as a day bag as well? Do I need to lock down my stuff at the hostels? What kind of lock? I have a thin bike chain coil - could I just lock that down in my own hostel room? All my hostel rooms will be private suites with my boyfriend.
I am very scared of losing my stuff even though I can afford to lose them, I would just rather not! (This is my first time to Europe without parents)
Thanks.

The last thing you need is your bag breaking or getting ruined while your over seas, you will find it expencive and possible hard to replace while you there.

I would, a back pack like this is made to take some serious wear and tear, and the day pack will come in handy..serious, i just got mine to replace my old one, and i love it!!!

Always keep you ticket, documents and cash with you at all times. I have never had anything stolen at a hostel, although it could happen. It is common practise to leave you bag on or under your bed.

combo lock, no owrries about key loss.

There are never any gurentees, but refer to the answer to abocve quote, and keep ALL the important stuff with you. Nobody wants to loose any of thier gear, for sure!
