Washing Clothes
How do people normally do this when travelling via hostels? Do most have laundrys?
If so, do you bring your own washing up powder? or buy it there?

some places have laundry and some actually do it for you (for a cost of course) but i washed what really needed washed (undies) in the sinks and then only went to a laundromat i think once in 2 months to wash clothes...its normal to not was clothes when you backpack!

Some hostels have laundry services (where they do your laundry for a fee), others have washing machings and possibly dryers which you pay for....but not all hostels. Of course if they don't, there will always be laundromats you can go to to do your laundry (definitely in the larger cities anyways). I never actually had to use a laundromat...only did my laundry 3-4X in the 2 months I was there and just ended up using the services of the "hostel" (old lady's apartment she rents out) in lagos, services @ the pink palace and my aunt's washer/dryer in germany.....but I would assume they have small packages of laundry detergent for sale there, just as they do here.

I always just take the dirty clothes in the shower with me. I'm pretty good at taking a shower most days and use shampoo etc... to wash them, then I just find somewhere in the room or on the bunk to hang them.

I took about two days worth of clothes for 17 days, so I think that should perpetuate. Sink-washing and bunk-drying is my tactic of choice. I like Marc's idea better though!

1. Yes, I do hope people normally do this... although I have heard stories where ppl (such as other tpunks) who didn't wash their jeans for like 6 months. I washed my clothes once a week
2. Just buy it there, its like one dollar or something. And if you bring it yourself, you risk spilling it all over your stuff in your bag...

It must be noted that my jeans are the only article I make a habit of not washing very regularly. And it is not necessarily done for travel purposes.
