Again, this is my first time backpacking and I will be in europe for two months. I will be travelling between big cities and need to know if reservations are absolutely necessary....(I would rather save the money...but not if I will and up missing the train) So what do you think? Also how much is it to reserve a seat on the train?

For day to day travel between cities I wouldn't worry about reserving.
I'd only reserve if you're going on an overnight train. For those I belive you have to reserve a day or 2 ahead.
