So here's something I thought up the other day.
Whats a good kind of sock to bring? When I go hiking I bring a thicker wool sock or something along those lines. But as for living in them for a couple months I don't know how comfortable they will be.
Do you bring a normal sock that you can buy a bag of 50 for $2.99?
Or is it a good idea to buy something more expensive like a thermal quick drying sock?

Depending on the temp, you should do fine with regular white sports socks. Wool for sure if oyur in a cold climate.
My personal pref. are the ankle socks, when I gots my boots on, looks like I am not wearing socks, but I get all the protection.
50 socks for 2.99 I would be a bit cautious about though, they might fall apart on ya
I think you can get a back of 10 for about 6 - 9 $ @ Walmart.
And just a tip, try not to go sockless when treking, you run the risk of blister, and the smelly foot thing is not that good in a dorm room
Sandles I guess you would have to bare foot cause ya will look like a senior citizen with socks and sandles

Thansks CD!
The picture you put the other week of the mean case of blisters actually made me start thinking about it.
It was a pretty disturbing picture...I hope nothing like that ever happens to anyone on a trip!

Im with CD... id rather the short socks. But, i just find that some socks (usually the cheaper ones made from nylon) tend to stink up a lot quicker than others. Just had bad experiences with new shoes, cheap sox and then basically stinking out a good pair of shoes for good due to these smelly sox.
Just an opinion though. Find wool/cotton blend the best.

Short socks take up far less space too.

Yeah, and if you want to take a preventitive step to not having stinky feet, take a thing of baby powder with ya and put some of that in your shoe before you leave for the day. Help soak up some of that sweat throughout the day. Keep you smelling fresh as a baby's ass.

i fully support expensive socks - well, not that the have to be, but if you want full blister protection:
get socks with built in liners! maybe just one pair for when you hike...
