Default how long did it take you to get your US passport?

How long did it take for your passport to come? I applied for mine last week with expedited service. The US Dept of State site says that it takes two weeks if you also have it overnighted. I'm just so worried it won't come in time.

How long do you normally have to wait for a passport?

Keep in mind too that the passport service is abnormally getting hammered lately with the transition to everyone needing passsports for canada and mexico in full swing.

Here in Canada you now need a passport to get into the States no matter how you enter the country. People have been lineing up at three in the morning outside of the registry office in my city so they can submit passport applications. It's insane!

I got mine in only a week or so, but I actually went to the Passport Authority in Houston where they're printed, so it was quicker... My little brother got his through the post office, and got his back in a couple weeks. He was stressing about missing a trip too though!

As of January 23, 2007, passports are currently only required for AIR and SEA entry. If traveling by car, bus, or train, you DO NOT need a passport yet (and this includes Canadian citizens traveling to the US). Currently, the passport requirement for land travel is delayed. It is to be implemented no later than June 1, 2009 (though it's very unlikely that it'll be implemented any earlier).

This summer, my dad managed to get his new Brazilian passport in two hours.

Five hours later he was with us in Cancun.

It pays to have connections.

I'm dreading getting my passport renewed in 2 years, the price is sky rocketing and those new biometric chips break very easily.

Expedited SHOULD take less than two weeks, but as was pointed out, the backlog is pretty bad right now. Good luck, hope it gets there soon!

Speaking of needing a passport to enter the US, here's an exchange that took place in front of me last weekend when I was crossing back from Mexico, between the immigration officer and a Hispanic teenager:

Border Agent: Where's your ID?
Teenage Guy: Um, I don't have one.
Border Agent: No drivers license or anything?
Teenage Guy: No, sorry, I didn't bring anything.
Border Agent: Are you a US citizen?
Teenage Guy: Yeah.
Border Agent: Can you prove that you're a US citizen?
Teenage Guy: Um, I dunno, I was born here.
Border Agent: Ok, go ahead, next time bring some ID!

I was speechless. Now I can't decide who's more incompetent, Homeland Security or the TSA...

Of course TSA is Homeland Security, so I guess it makes sense... you know what I mean.
