I have a month to travel this summer and I originally planned on doing the typical European backpacking trip. But after a lot of research, I am thinking of going to New Zealand instead. This will be my first time traveling outside of North America and want to make the right decision. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions from anyone who has been to either place.

i am from new zealand

its an ok place, if you go to te south island ( go in winter , june-ausgust) as they have the queensland winter festivle, i think it runs for a week or something, go to the top of the noth island ( bay of islands) for warmer weather, boat cruises etc. auckland is pretty shit.lame xcuse for a city really, as is wellington and christchurch. it depends what you want in a holiday really.
nz is laid back, smoke pot chill surf and snowbord type of country,
europe with be several countries alll differnt, different peopole, experiances etc.

havent been to europe so cant comment ( but wil be doing that soon!!)

personally i dont like nz, but then thats probably just cos i lived there all my life.

its a really clean green country, great for hiking, bush, beach its veryoutdoors. it is seanic, its very pretty.

just watch out for south auckland (otara, otahuhu,manurewa, etc) its a ghetto in auckalnd ( good for drugs) b ut yu get beaten up! lol

Hey Galactic- Personally, I think NZ is one of the greatest places on earth- extremely laid back and chill- so if thats your personality you would probably have a good time. However, if I had to choose I would go with Europe just because I think most people would probably get more from the experiance- but definitely plan on going to both in the future! Also, plane tix would be about $1000 less to Europe from North America. Either way, you cant really go wrong. Good luck deciding. -Sean
