Hi all,
I was just curious about a couple of things being a first time traveler. I will be backpacking in Italy and England. Am I allowed to ship purchases home if I keep the recipts and declare them. Does anyone know if that is even possible? I wanted to purchase a little wine 4-6 bottles, while in Italy and because I am backpacking I'd prefer not to have to carry it around. I had also noticed the posts on another board about passport theft and am I required to carry it with me or may I carry a copy and keep it in my locked backpack in a locker at the hostel, or is that a bad idea as well? Apologies in advance for the "dumb" questions. Thanks, Horsewoman  |
Hey Horsewoman, welcome!
Yes, you can ship stuff home. Many people do this because the item is either to bulky or whatever. Personally, I haven't done it. I can't imagine it'll be a problem in either Italy or the UK. Lots of guidebooks give you details on what to expect when shipping. So, I'd say plan on it. As for your passport, the only time you really need it on yoru person is when entering or leaving a country. They'll ask for it, often times, when checking into a hotel, though. Personally, I leave it in my bag in the hotel, although I know some who carry it with them at all times. I think you're taking a greater risk of losing it doing that, than having it stolen from your room. worldwidemike |
yeah Mike is right, you wont have any probs. I sent a bottle of Absinthe home and it made it, I dont even think its legal in the states but that shows your wine wont have any issues ;)
