I visited Ryanair's site just now and they are polling to find out if people would stand on 1 hour flights for free or 50% of a regular ticket.

Hell yea, I've stood for an 8 hour bus ride before, at least on an aircraft I could stand straight instead of being hunched over.
I somehow doubt health and safety in the EU would allow this though... What happens when the fasten seat belts sign comes on...

actually, on their site they have a diagram showing small walls almost with seat belts. I voted yes in the poll although I agree that the EU might not go for it.

i think the only problem would be if you fit that many more people on a plane, how are you going to be able to get that many people off in a short amount of time through the existing exits in the case of an emergency?
but heck yeah i'd stand for a cheap flight. hands down.
