Another tale.....

This one happened one November evening in 2001. I was bored out of my mind so I decided to tag along with some friends on a road trip to Baltimore, with a one night stay at a nearby motel. While there, someone in our group mentioned about the Leonid meteor shower that was about to begin that very night, which I'd completely forgotten about

I felt a little uneasy with the group. Besides myself our group comprised of two couples and one of them had a screaming 2 year old daughter with them. And I was to spend a night with the couple with the baby - in the same room. (NO!!)

After dinner I politely told everyone I decided to drive back to NJ - where I live - that night itself, so as to let everyone have their own rooms. Everyone understood and off I went. It was about 10pm when I arrived home. It was Saturday night and I was determined to witness the meteor shower. I called up a friend of mine who knows the backroads of NJ very well. We drove off into the deep woods (the Pine Barrens, I think) somewhere in middle NJ where it was totally dark and the local roads were barren.

We were prepared for the cold of the night with blankets, recliner chairs and we were decked out in layers of thick clothes.

And for the next five hours we witnessed the most amazing natural phenomenon ever. We saw well over a thousand meteor showers in all directions in the sky. Yes, for the fun of it, we counted. And then stopped as we lost count...
Some thick and strong; some light and zipped by us in less than a split second. It was everywhere. We felt as if we were children again while witnessing the most incredible of scenery anyone can ever imagine.

It was an absolutely divine experience. A fantastic feeling of serenity and awe.

We travel thousands of miles to places faraway to experience different feelings and sceneries but this one was just so close to my backyard I figured it was a story worth telling....

I haven't been to Livingston. I used to live in Missoula and Alberton, which is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it town stuck between two big mountains, population about 150 (except when I lived there as a kid and the census was being taken, the official count was 350 because-- I am not making this up-- everyone counted their cats and dogs. The town was a strange mix of hippies, loggers and hermits; my parents belonged to the hippie category.) My dad is still in Missoula.

I had two friends that went to school in Missoula. They both loved it. The one loved it so much, she stayed there. The other has always had a part of her that wants to go back. If it was anything like Bozeman (cool little college town with that awesome MT scenery), I can kind of see why. I'm much more of a city person though.

that's why I'm in SEATTLE! lol I've discovered that I need to live somewhere near a large body of water. Preferably the ocean, but I'll take a big lake if there's nothing else.

try 30 feet from a decent-sized lake. I agree, I need water. At home I live less than 10 blocks from the Mississippi, and here I live right by the lake, actually I can see it as I type!

I agree - lake, river, ocean - anything! Need to be near the water! It's in our system, our body is made up of mostly water!

Or 96%, according to Reverend Al Green.
