Because my laptop is broken! I don't know what happened to it. It won't even turn on. I can't take it anywhere to get it fixed though because it is still under warranty and the warranty will be void if it is taken apart by somewhere other than Best Buy (where I bought it)
Anyway though....I will be not very active on the boards for awhile because of the huge inconvenience.
Hey, anyone have any experience with getting laptops fixed/replaced while under warranty? I am hoping I don't have any troubles.

Oh that sucks!! I've never had that kind of experience.. but perhaps you can call Best Buy and explain to them your situation? Perhaps they can contact you with someone in the DR who they trust with thing like this? If they offer no soultions then you can either ship it to them or try to get someone who looks descent enough to fix it there for you.
Good luck!! I've become such an internet addict I don't know what I would do!!
Hope to have u back soon enough!

Sorry to hear it. Best Buy took pretty good care of my comp when it broke. Luckily it was nothing with the software so the warranty covered it and all my music and stuff saved was still there.
Does it still have a long time left under warranty? If not then it might be worth it to just break the warranty and get it done.

Good luck with that! Hope it turns out to be something minor and works out fine. Internet depriviation is hard, I know. :P
Computer problems suck, my hard drive died on me last november and I lost everything on it...it was not exciting, including shelling out a hundred bucks on a new drive. Oh well, c'est la vie.

What kind of laptop do you have? Different companies have different speeds and quality of repairs.
Who do you have?

Hey guys, at a friends house right now doing laundry, so using her computer! My laptop is a compaq v-2000....and I am going home in three weeks for a visit, so will be taking it directly to Best Buy to get fixed. Also, with the warranty, they do not support it if it breaks on "vacation" for some reason, so the mention of it breaking in the DR will not be mentioned at all!

The less information you give them, the less they have to use against you.

Aww that sucks Brooke! My laptop broke in Germany, but I got it through Dell, so they just shipped us the parts (my hubby knows about all that computer stuff....)... too bad they won't do the same for you! Oh well, at least you get to head back "home" for awhile and get it taken care of.

d'OH! That blows.
My old Sony VAIO did the same non-powering-up thing. Dunno if you've tried, but you may want to try cycling it by disconnecting the AC adapter and removing the battery for at least 15 min. Then only reconnect the AC adapter and try firing it up. Sometimes the battery gets wonky and does that.
Otherwise, it could be the internal battery, if the V2000 has one. In which case, the folks at Best Buy should be able to replace it quickly. It's like a little watch battery on the motherboard that has just enough juice to detect the power button being pushed.
