Question for those seasoned in international internet cafes - Do most internet cafes have things like skype, msn, installed? and if not, is it common that the employees will give u admin access to install such programs if required?

Giving admin rights to random people who want to install stuff? ::shiver::

Most places I have been to will not but the employees or admin that is on hand might be able to install a program for you if you ask. Some places will, some won't. Some places just have an image and certain software installed and you just live with it.

They usually though will have MSN, AIM, Yahoo etc chat programs but none of the ones I have seen have had Skype installed. It might just need more publicity or people asking for it though.

Skype's excellent. If the person on the other end has it as well, it's free, and for some charge (I don't know the figures or anything... er.) you can use it to call straight to ground lines.
But it's much like having a phone, but, um, on your computer. And thus a hell of a lot less portable.
The quality is great as long as you have a good internet connection! (And a semi-decent microphone.)

I think there's a new version of Skype now (they got bought out by yahoo or AOL) called Skype-out. THe out refers to ringing out onto normal landlands.

Our town is setting up it's own broadband wireless network because Eircom, Irelands telecommunications cartel won't run the lines an extra ten miles to our town.

We've enlisted the help of an American boffin to do all the hard work but Eircom are trying to tell people that this technoligy (all ready in use) is impossible.

Anyway the whole town will soon have free national and UK call's and 5c to the US, using Skype-out.
