I don't know if I would personally buy one right now. Its a new car out on the market, I would wait a couple years and see what the reviews are like.
I would seriously read up on the car, some first gen cars can be prone to problems.
If you're looking to spend around $17,000 and you want an import I'd buy a Honda Civic

Well, I have this silly personal policy of only buying German cars with a minimum 6-cylinder engine. Some theorize it's because I have a tiny cock, but I think it's because I know what I like.
At any rate, when I was looking at diversifying my taste in cars, the Scion tC caught my eye. Besides having pretty good performance for a tiny 4-banger, it looks damn good up close, and from everything I've read, the fit and finish inside is actually more Lexus-like than Toyota-like. Not a bad endorsement!
Like Pinion said, I'd be worried about the first year of any generation of cars - but at least with companies like Honda and Toyota (Scion's a division of Toyota), you're pretty unlikely to end up with a lemon.
The new special edition one in nailpolish red is a looker, btw...

That's more true of people who are buying Hummers and other monstrosities of that ilk, methinks.
But yeah, I'd have to admit that the Scions catch my eye whenever I see 'em! Haven't read up about them at all so I don't have any input, sorry. Other than to say that I think they look kinda cool.

My brother baught one maybe 6 months ago and loves it, it is really nice inside and out, it has decent performance and rides pretty nice, for the price Id say its well worth it barring any future issues that come up with it but as of now not a single problem and he loves it so thats my take, good luck

I do love love the Scions! I wanted to buy one before anyone else (hehe) but we decided to go to Europe instead! But, my sister in law and her husband just bought one and love it. They can afford to take a risk in buying a new car like that though, but so far, all is well.

At least you're not buying that boxy Scion SUV. That, and the horrible Honda Element, are the only vehicles on the road that give the Pontia Aztek a run for its Ugliest Vehicle money...
