Default Christ is Risen!

The Catholic Church I go to has beautiful paintings, stained glass and decorations on holidays. It is like a cathedral in a small town. Today it was filled with people and wonderful songs. The priest knows me and I wonder if he knows I left euros in the offering after one of my trips or just because I used to wear my artist's clothes to church. One Sunday he gave a sermon on "The South" where people dressed in beautiful clothes to glorify God on Sunday and inspired me to dress really well. He's given many other good helpful pieces of advice to help me grow in faith. This is a summary of the the priest's sermon today.

A lady with a large engagement ring wanted to immediately share it in the company of her girlfriends but they were heatedly talking about something else so she took it off her finger and put it in her pocket. "Good news" means "Gospel" and just like the apostles that shared it with the world we too need to share the good news of Jesus Christ at work, home and at school rather than bottle it up in the company of others.
Last fall I mentioned my belief in God to a girl in my hostel in Rome. She told me she attended the university in Beijing where students opposed the Chinese government in Tianamen Square and the governement viewed the incident as a handful of kids that went astray. Then she told me about Christians that gathered in the country to sing songs to praise God and they were surrounded by police. Then she told me about a professor that taught the Gospel as the truth and how inspiring it was. She shared her faith then said her parents were Buddhists and she came to believe in God on her own.
I'm challenged to talk about religion at work or in a house where everyone was baptized a Christian but I think it's important for the Gospel to be in conversations. The American Bible Society spreads the Bible around the world and translates it in different languages. I just read their magazine and read about someone that found faith in Jesus Christ in another part of the world.

Alleluia

I was inspired by a scene in "The Greatest Story Ever Told". When the church elders say to Jesus "Why don't we know God?" he says "You haven't looked for him."

Happy Easter T-Punks.

Hope all you who celebrate Easter were blessed! It was probably the only Easter of my life that I haven't gone to church for.

Have you ever been to the basilica in Lewiston, Maineartist? It's the largest cathedral in New England and it's gorgeous. I've only been there for a Palm Sunday service, but we had a choir concert there last weekend and it was beautiful.

Freespiritz, I hadn't heard of it before.
We're lucky to have beautiful Roman Catholic Churches in Maine.

You should swing by and visit it sometime! Although I lied, I think it's the second-largest church in NE.

Stop *shoulding on me*. If I want to see that church I'll make it a goal. Thanks for sharing it.

Freespiritz - this is actually the first time in a loooong time that I went to Easter Mass. I'm usually an Ash Wednesday and out kind of Catholic. But I was a confirmation sponsor this year (weird...but special), so I was unusually observant this year. The whole vigil was really amazing - like no church I've been to before.

But theeennn...after church, the kids of the congregation got to roast marshmallows and make s'mores from the Easter bonfire. Brilliant! Hope everyone else had a spectacular Easter too!

Oh, and here's some fun from my "local" paper: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv...859/index.html

I did three Easter Mass (one on Saturday night and two on Sunday morning). I was pooped when I finally got to my grandmother's house, but it was cool.

I'm just amazed we have cathedrals like the one Hwei posted in the US. That looks like a photo from Belgium.

I really liked your post Mainartist... made me feel quite guilty for not going to mass on Sunday (first time ever for Easter mass...) I've been a bit lazy about going to church on Sundays these past few months... but I really liked your outiline of the priest's sermon. Thanx!!

I did and it still didn't make any sense. I think I get it now.

Also sorry for saying 'hell' in a thread about Jesus.

Happy belated Easter everyone.
