Default huge protests in Burma

Just a warning for anyone who is planing to go to Burma or SE Asia that there are currently massive protests going on in Rangoon and military may be called. These things obviously makes countries unstable and its all too easy for a backpacker to get sucked in.
So be careful if you are going.

Hey guya. I just left myanmar 3 days ago! Back in thailand. I actually left early. I was supposed to leave myanmar tomorrow. But changed due to the fact that the beach region where we wanted to go was rained out. There were some protests when I was there. But I had no clue how much until i left the country!! News in myanmar is severly limited. I don't know what would have happened if I was still in myanmar right now. I heard there are curfews..Sounds scary. My mom is sooooooooo glad that i'm out of there. But I didn't feel unsafe at all in that country. I'm glad i got to see the schewadogon pagoda in yangon. it's since been shut down i heard. whew that was one close trip! oh and mike i'm writing my blog as i speak . watch for an email in a day. thanks for your concern!

Apparently Embassies are now advising all citizens to return home (duh) while the riots are ensuing.

I was relieved to see you were out of the country when that all started up, Jill. I'm with you, though, in thinking you'd have been fine...it's not like either side is hunting down tourists. They're focussed on each other, and as long as you didn't end up in the line of fire, you'd be fine. That said, I could see just about everything being shut down during this time, so it's good you got out!

Enjoying the blog...
