Study in Mainz or Friedrichshafen, Germany? Big dilemma . . .
So I've decided again to run away from the situation here and further continue my problem of having no "home." So I want to perfect my German, so I decided that I want to study abroad for a year. I really really miss Germany and where I used to live, Wiesbaden, which is almost the same city as Mainz. I have some friends in the area, and an ex-gf that I'll admit I'm still crazy about in Luxembourg, and her family's really close to Frankfurt (close to Mainz). Chances are it won't work out with us anyways, but I'll admit its part of the motivation. But here's the problem. I want to get out of here ASAP, and Mainz doesn't accept new students in the spring. So I'm thinking about maybe going to Zeppelin University in Friedrichshafen, on Lake Constance bordering Austria and Switzerland. I love that its so close to the mountains, but the city itself isn't too big and the neighboring cities don't have much to offer. I'm kinda digging bigger cities these days (like Mainz). Zeppelin Uni is a private school, ranked really well, with only 800 students. Might be a great education, but do I want such a small school? Hmmmmmm . . . . but I want to snowboard without taking trains for a day. What do I do?

Is there anyway to get over there now, apply to Zeppelin (or in reverse order), live there thru November and see if you would like the town in the spring time? If you dont like it enough (too small, etc), just not enroll at Zep? Or if so, enroll, do Zep for the spring then transfer to Mainz in Fall 09?

I agree with the above. And you can always use the Wochenendepass for weekend getaways.

I'd be transferring over there on an exchange program from my university here in the States. I have to complete this semester here first. And I have to complete the entire year at the same university. So its not really possible to go check it out first.
