It scares me that my cornea will get shaved off and then later on my vision will get worse and I'll just be screwed. I dunno.

The technology keeps getting better and better, meaning one of the improvements is a reduction in the amount of cornea being removed. Unless your cornea is very thin to start with, I believe its quite possible you could have a second procedure. The doctor can advise you on that.
As for cost, there are a lot of variables that impact it. I needed a custom procedure on one eye and a standard on the other. The machine that maps your eyeball basically determines it. I can be affected by cornea size/thickness, pupil size when fully dialated, etc. I think the custom procedure was maybe $300 more for that eye, something like that. You really won't know what the cost is until you have an initial consultation.
The earliest lasik procedures caused some problems for people with large pupils. What happened was, the old lasik machines only corrected the cornea to a certain diameter. At night, if you have a large pupil, it would expand beyond the corrected zone which would mess up people's night vision...permanently in most cases.
The machines are much better now and problems like that almost never happen...there are millions of procedures done a year and the machines are constantly improving. Just try to make sure you use a doctor who uses the absolute latest machines. If you want a bargain and are planning a trip to Asia, you could always go to a Thai or Chinese eye doctor. They do a lot of that over there and it's inexpensive. I would be leery...but hey..if you are willin to take a chance you can save some dough...its only your eye sight.
