I just attended an ex-boyfriend's wedding, it was kind of funny. Figure not many people my age can lay claim to that yet.

You know this from first hand experience?
This is just going from bad to worse. I was just informed that somehow, and I have no recollection of this, that I had "volunteered" to "donate" my time as a server at her rehearsal dinner in lieu of a gift. I was INVITED to the rehearsal dinner. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm almost in hysterics from working so much-- like 23 hours in a 27-hour period-- I probably would grumble a bit but in the end do it and be fine with it. Now the idea of working on one of my VERY FEW days off in the past two months for free makes me want to cry. And I hardly ever cry.
I don't even want to go to the fucking wedding now, but I'm totally backed into a corner. I'd rather buy their entire registration list at William-Sonoma than work that rehearsal dinner.

I'm certainly no expert on matters of this nature but I think you should tell her (I'm assuming it's a female) how you feel. It is far better to have her mildly pissed off for a little while than to quietly resent her because it will be noticeable in your behaviour and it could escalate into something much more dramatic and possibly damage your friendship.
Tell her exactly what you just told us (minus some swearwords) and if she is even partly human, she'll understand. However also remember that this must be a stressful time for her.
If you still can't be stuffed going to the wedding go with an open mind, if you go there thinking you'll have a shit time, you will.
Sorry about the structureless, poorly edited rant but I'm sure you'll work out what I'm trying to say.
Good Luck

Do you know somebody who you could get to work the wedding for you that would want the extra cash? You could pay them yourself "in lieu of a gift". Sub-contracted wedding services.....why not? It would be better than working it yourself. Otherwise, you should just talk to your friends and let them know you cannot possibly work their wedding. If they are good friends they will understand. If they're not, they're not worth it anyway.

Those of you ladies who don't like dresses - you are more than welcome to remove them in my presence.
That is all.

Unfortunately I do not know anyone who could work for me. The problem in the hospitality industry this time of year is a major shortage of available workers.
I'm not the type of friend to sit in resentment on someone's happy day. It will work itself out one way or the other-- either I won't end up working it at all or I will and I'll deal with it and be happy for her. That's just the way I am.
