Holy crap beans, it's been a long ass time since I've been on here. Anyway, hello fellow Tpunkers, I'm sorry I haven't been on the site more recently to help people out but I'm here now.
I'm going to be getting my TESOL cert here pretty soon(well, as soon as I finish the class) and I wanted to know WHERE people have taught English overseas and what they liked or didn't like about each place.
I know that "it depends" is going to be a frequent response because where to teach can be based on things like, "are you going there because you like that country or are you just in it to save money?"
The last time I looked into teaching overseas was at least 4 or 5 years ago so I'm sure things have changed, and that's the kind of info I'm interested in. For example, when I was looking last, Korea was where you went if you wanted to save $8 or $10 grand. Thailand and the other SE Asian countries didn't pay a whole lot so you were going to be teaching there pretty much just for the experience and cuz they're awesome countries to visit. Eastern Europe was on the decline because most countries were either in or trying to get into the E.U. so they were teaching English in regular school. South America was similar to SE Asia in that there wasn't much money in it and you were going for the experience.
So that's what I remember, if things have changed I'd love to know. Mainly I'd like to hear some English teaching stories from you guys and any recommendations on where to go. I'd love to do one or two years in a place where I can save up some money so I can finish paying off my student loans and any other debt. After that, I'm open to going anywhere, even if they just pay enough to get by.
Thanks for your help as always, and I hope to meet some folks who are new to this site.
P.S.- I just saw the picture from the Pamplona meet up on one of the main pages! I'm the guy in the back in the black shirt, just to the right of the middle. That was so much fun, and TORO is delicious!!!
