Thumbs up

So, lately I've been feeling bad for not posting on TP in, well, forever. I've been so busy writing the new Peace Corps Berber text book, training new volunteers, and fixing other people's computers that I haven't had time to participate.

After looking through my pictures however, I came up with the perfect idea for a topic. If you've got an odd picture from your work at home or abroad, post it!

Maybe we can get TP to make it a contest and give the winner some sort of little prize

Here's my picture:
Because I'm working to build and develop medical waste incinerators here in Morocco, I wanted to use my welding skills so I wouldn't have to depend on the local welders when I was in a hurry. The problem was, I wasn't used to the welding tools here. So, I finally found an acceptable set of welding goggles (they use sunglasses or nothing) and got someone to let me play in their shop. The bandana was added on day 3 to prevent my face from getting too sun-burned due to the radiant heat put off by the welder. After the picture was taken the shop owner refused to let me weld until I took off the bandana... he said too many people were staring.

If you're wondering what I was doing in that shot, I was converting a friend's old window-grate into a garden table. The incinerators are a bit too pricey to start learning on.

The final result.

Have a stop by the website if you're bored. It's on a new server, new domain name, loads faster, and has some new features to boot!

MeineReisen

Take care all!
Rob

Hey Rob!! It's great to hear from you!

Wow, sweet pictures... Beautiful table. My dad used to let me weld stuff when I was 10 or 11, lol. Didn't really do any of the metal much good but it was fun.

Keep posting updates!

gee...i wish i could have gotten a picture of what i was doing at work on sunday...il draw it on paint real quick.

sorry if this picture ruins the tone of the post, but this is what i happened to do at work on sunday morning. someone nailed a deer right in front of the bosses house, and he had a good laugh as my buddy and i lifted it into the tractor's bucket. notice the attention to detail- its easy to remember things like that at 6AM on sunday mornings...

Rob mate! Good to hear from you. Thanks for sharing the pics. I've never actually taken any pics of myself at work before, maybe I should!

Hmmm. Don't have a job.

Loved the table there. Very nice.

Elixer - the picture would have been nothing without the duck. It just made it so much more real for me.

You gonna gut some fish at your desk or take a drill to the cubicle walls (since they moved you away from your view)??

I work at the bank...its a factory job with computers that makes people stupid. Half of the jobs here can be done by smart, trained monkeys.

Welders, Office workers, Bankers, Trained Monkeys ... all very good proffessions.
I have done everything ( well not everything but ahelluvalot ) trying to determine what would suit me career wise. I still haven't quite got it figured out, but currently I am a Chauffeur ( in any other language = glorified taxi driver ) not horribly hard work ... lotsa time to do what ya like. It's interesting to see how many people there are that like the idea of backpacking but never do .

Hey, I'm in Peace Corps... it's like backpacking 24/7 Always doing something different... one day welding, another day suturing someone's finger back on, another day chasing scorpions around in the middle of the night for a presentation sure to give the new volunteers nightmares for a week!
