Voyd brough up a good topic in another thread.

(Please correct me if i misstate something)
The Mayans predict the end of the world with the Mayan Holy Number 1,366,560 days. Which is Dec. 22, 2012.

The mayan calender put ours to shame when it was first discovered. They are also the first civilization to create the concept of the number '0'. Mayans are known for being mathematical geniuses of their time.

The prophecies state that the 5th and final stage of the Sun will happen on this date. 4 stages have already happened, each one wipeing out the previous civilization.

One Sun spots cycle occurs about every 1,366,040 days. (This was exactly two 260 day cycles larger than his theoretical sunspot period.) Sun spots have been predicted to cause pole shifts. Pole shifts do happen, as geological evidence shows. However these records show more of a magnetic realignment, then just a mere shift.

A possible shift/realignment would cause abnormal weather patterns and natural disaters to begin first. And eventually massive flooding, earthquakes, blah, blah..

Tales of Atlantis ring a bell.

Anyways here is a website with more details Here

What do you guys think?

magnetic realignments happen fairly regularly (geologically speaking) and do cause short periods of abnormal weather ( a few years or so)

but then again so do Many Volcanoes every time they go off

Plate tectonics led to the the discovery of magntised rocks indicating reversal of the poles. Not mere degree changes but North is SOuth and South is North and then back again.

"If a core is drilled through undisturbed rock, one would find that the young rock on top is magnetized in the present normal direction, the older layer underneath is magnetized in the reverse direction, the next layer is again normal, the next layer is again reversed, and so forth. Investigations carried out all over the world show that the earth' s magnetic field has reversed direction every few hundred thousand years."
(ecerpt from Plate Tectonics descriptions.)

horseradish... if the world ended in 2012, where would that leave my children, and Bushes plan to go to Mars by 2020?

I have a hard time believing the Mayans - especially since they had ritual blood letting by the cutting of their penises

Right on, Som.

rubbish! the Earth would still be here even if all sorts of shit went down. It may be the end of our world, but the Mayans would not know that. Their world ended a long time ago due to drought, so if they were predicting (accuratly) the end of worlds they would have seen that shit coming. Also, many legimiate soucres point out the fact so many people get tied up in this hogwash is that the Mayans stopped adding shit to their calender because they had other shit to deal with (like dieing from a massive drought). And didn't the world end in 2000 when all the computers crashed and nukes went off everywhere? Nostradamus said it would, so that must be right. And did anyone read that book The DaVinci Code?

sigh.....

Well, just to play D.A, an extended 3-9 year drought was a probable factor to their demise, but still conjectural. But even if so, even if they could predict it, it doesn't mean they could stop it.. How can any civilization, ancient or even modern, survive a 9 year drought? It wouldn't matter if you saw it coming or not.

And 2000 was a media event - not per any real prophecy. If anything - it gave people a possibly false sense of security.

And this is not? It is aboit selling books, not about science. None of these claims come from legimate sources or are housed on university sites, essays etc. It is a way to freak people out and make them but books and watch TV shows.

And about the drought....if they could see it coming so far in advance, clearly a societry that could predict the future has the know how to make a damn good attempt at trying to live through it via a move or some method of stoage, something....back to the real science now
