Just listening to music and thinking about songs that either when I hear them make me think id like to go to the location being sung about or songs that are just good traveling songs so i thought id compile about 10 maybe others would like to give their take..........
1. Willie Nelson- On the Road again( but just as easily i could have put songs like georgia on my mind or recollection pheonix)
2.Jim Croce- Alabama Rain or New Yorks Not My Home
3. Jimmy Buffet- The Weather is Here
4.Hank Williams- Ramblin man
5.Louis Armstrang- What a wonderful world
6.Gordon Lightfoot- Early Morning Rain
7.Phantom Planet- California
8.Cat Stevens (Cat's the man)-Wild World or On the Road to Find Out
9.Waylon Jenning- Drinkin and Dreamin
10.James Taylor- Gone to Carolina
11. George Jones- Wild Irish Rose ( not really a traveling song but i listen to it whenever i drive anywhere so its my travel song i suppose)
This is just my take on it my list my have a little southern bias so let me know what you guys think

wow, u like alot of older music---------i havent heard most of those songs 2 tell u the truth..........but i like mellow songs when i travel too, unless im driving then u have 2 kick it up a notch get some songs u can sing along with......doesnt really matter what u like as u dont fall asleep behind the wheel. lets see i like so much different music ( i feel that most groups have at least one or 2 good songs ) so i like everything.......except classical thats really it......

Those are some good traveling songs for sure. Maybe they were written on the tour bus and that is where the traveling vibe comes through in the songs. I would also like to add The Pixies to the list. For some reason, when I am driving with the Pixies on, I feel like I am in a movie or something. Hard to explain.

Dio I've heard of them! I even went to one of their shows...Great band! Spirit of the West is music to drive for hours!
Mine would be:
Enya - Sail Away
Pink Floyd - Wish you were here
Mandalay - Insensible
Lamb - Gabriel
Badmarsh & Shri - Air I Breathe (Nitin Sawhney REM)
Ben Onono - Tatouage bleu
Talvin Singh - Traveller
And all the 'Cafe Del Mar' CD's!!!

Don't really have a list of travel songs, per se, but, a few songs that get the adrenaline going are...
Cranberries- Dreams
U2- Streets Have No Name
Pearl Jam- Evenflow (well, many of their songs, really)
And for those mellow moments-
Otis Redding- Sitting on the Dock of the Bay (what a classic!)

I know this is going to sound VERY cheesy, but when I was taking the ferry from Dublin to Holly Head, I was enjoying a pint in the lounge and Ray of Light by Maddona came on, and ever since then I have loved that song...every time I hear it I think of my travels....

On my way to the airport for every trip, I pop in Thomas Dolby's "Astronauts and Heretics" CD, and forward to the song: "I Live in a Suitcase." My favorite line is below in my signature, "They say that travel broadens the mind..."

Well I've not actually had the pleasure of singing while travelling, YET! But when I do I'll be listening to Bonjovi, their best has to be Livin on a Prayer.
Plus if I carry thier albums with me I can drool over Jon BonJovi every time I open the case!
Also
Enya- Sail Away (Great choice Moc!)
INXS- (My Dad used to play it when I was a kid and I know ALL the words!) :D
Phil Collins- (Thats my Mum's fault!)
Nirvana- (Great to jump up 'n' down 2 when V.drunk!)
Moby- (To chill out to)

yeah baby finger eleven rox. Ive seen them live a couple of times. We got some good bands. Although OLP makes me wanna gag. ugh hate them with a passion. Even though i think Edwin is a dick (i mother earth is better without him) I like the song 'alive' that he does.

Gonna have to go with the first two songs I thought of.
Widespread Panic
"Travelin Man"
Wanna keep my eyes on the road
Wanna carry my life in a bag
Like to live in a hotel room
Wanna be a travelin' man
&
"Travelin Light" (originally by JJ Cale)
Travelin' Light, and you can catch the wind
Travelin' Light, better let your mind pretend
Get on down to paradise
Maybe once, now maybe twice
Travelin' Light, is the only way to fly
But as far as what I listen to when on the road...pretty much Phish, Grateful Dead, all that hippie crap.

Wow. Completely missed the Pixies post earlier. Throw on Surfer Rosa, and you could ship me to Siberia in a duffle bag and I'd be happy.

the pixies do rock: veluoria and where is my mind are my favorites.
kylej: great taste in music!! if you like cat stevens, maybe you have heard the stuff he did for the movie harold and maude - not sure if all of that went on one album, but it's really great.
oh, and tp: otis redding is the man! he made a lot of great music, it's a shame most people only hear on the dock of the bay.
as for me, i have to go with prefab sprout and caetano veloso (maybe you know it tui, thanks to your girlfriend!) - prefab, for the pop feel and caetano for the chill times.
