Well I'm still in Austria and seriously missing spending this day with all my friends back home one last time, this time next year we will all be graduated with jobs all across America. But in honor of the Fourth enjoy some school house rock!
Ooh, there's gonna be fireworks (fireworks!)
On the Fourth of July (red, white and blue!)
Red, white, and blue fireworks
Like diamonds in the sky (diamonds
in the sky!)
We're gonna shoot the entire works
on fireworks
That really show, oh yeah,
We declared our liberty two hundred
years ago.
Yeah!
In 1776 (fireworks!)
There were fireworks too (red, white, and blue!)
The original colonists,
You know their tempers blew (They really blew!)
Like Thomas Paine once wrote:
It's only common sense (only common sense)
That if a government won't give you your basic rights
You better get another government.
And though some people tried to fight it,
Well, a committee was formed to write it:
Benjamin Franklin, Plilip Livingston,
John Adams, Roger Sherman, Thomas Jefferson,
They got it done, (Oh yes they did!)
The Declaration, uh-huh-huh,
The Declaration of Independence (Oh yeah!)
In 1776 (Right on!)
The Continental Congress said that we were free (We're free!)
Said we had the right of life and liberty,
...And the pursuit of happiness!
Ooh, when England heard the news (Kerpow!),
They blew their stack (They really blew their cool!),
But the colonies lit the fuse,
There'd be no turning back (no turning back!).
They'd had enough of injustice now
But even if it really hurts, oh yeah,
If you don't give us our freedom now
You're gonna see some fireworks!
And on the Fourth of July they signed it
And fifty-six names underlined it,
And now to honor those first thirteen states,
We turn the sky into a birthday cake.
They got it done (Oh yes they did!)
The Declaration, uh-huh-huh,
The Declaration of Independence (Oh yeah!)
In 1776 (Right on!)
The Continental Congress said that we were free (We're free!)
Said we had the right of life and liberty,
...And the pursuit of happiness!
We hold these truths to be self evident,
That all men are created equal
And that they are endowed by their creator
With certain unalienable rights.
That among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit
of happiness,
And if there's one thing that makes me happy,
Then you know that it's (ooh!)
There's gonna be fireworks!

I'm celebrating - or I should say, having a lack of celebration - at my home in Canada.
This is my first Independence Day spent outside the United States, and I miss the US considerably.
This holiday especially, and the 4 preceeding years, have each been increasingly bittersweet and dismaying with the current administration being in office. I love my country, but I deplore what it has become, at least on the government level.
However, I will always be proud to be American - if, for no other reason, because of the ideals it was founded upon, even if those ideals are lost on the current politicians in power.

All I have to say is it's 2 am here, Jakes family is ready to fly back home (they leave in a few hours) and I'm so sad I couldn't talk to any of mine (its 7 pm there!). Homesickness suck. for all of you reading this (American of course) that are like "oh I wish I was somewhere cool" just appreciate the moment.

I spent Sunday in a boat out on Lake Winnipesaukee with probably 6 other friends. Drinking some beer, swimming and generally having a lot of laughs and fun. Sunday night we cooked up some steak tips on the grill and sat out on the deck telling stories and having more laughs until the wee hours. What more can you ask for? Summer is the best!

I spent Saturday at the Jack Daniels distillery in Tennesse and all day Sunday and Monday in front of the grill with a cooler of beer and a box of fireworks. I still have the blister on my thumb from the lighter to prove it!
Cases of beer consumed: 14.5
Pounds of meat grilled: 27
People present at party: 12
4th of July 2005: memorable

Spent the day working a catering gig on a 46' yacht in Baltimore's Inner Harbor with some potential investors for a restaurant...
Did a shitload of food for it, enjoyed a couple cold beers and watched the fireworks from the water...
Nice cap to a week of 12-15 hour days. Today, I woke up 12 hours after I crashed last nite and am enjoying my day off!

I do that far too often
I never attempt the "I'm never drinking again" line because I know I'll break it within a day or two. Why make a promise you know you're never going to keep? :D

oops... hit a botton and that posted. i meant to ask, Joker, if you heard about those arrests. The people in the restaurant said that there were some gunshots right after the fireworks, and this guy was arrested on the steps of the restaurant... but we didn't hear any shots at all... just say everyopne all of a sudden run towards the left side (towards that huge chesapeake ship thingy)

No, didnt hear about a shooting.
But a shooting in or around Harborplace? No way, its too nice down there. Bullshit. I've been nearly mugged several times there, and despite what the city wants you to think, it ain't that safe...
But I digress, 4th was pretty damned good. :D

Yeah, I don't know what it is about fireworks, but it always seem to draw out the idiots and lowlifes. Here in Columbus (where we have an ample supply of both), our 4th of July celebration -- which is never actually on the 4th -- is called "Red, White & Boom." My bartender buddy says he and his coworkers downtown call it "Rednecks, white trash and boom..."
