Hello and thankyou for any help..... I am obviously new, but have been reading for days, and love the site!!!
Q: I am desperate. I need to get out of the US since loss of family, and have searched for weeks for a place I can get work (for sure). I have much experience in dealing all casino games, as well as restaurant work (9 years). I am 31 and feeling helpless, for the lack of information pertinent, specifically to what I am looking for. PLEASE HELP, ALL SUGGESTIONS ARE MOST APPRECIATED....
THANKS,
J

If you have restruant exp I'm sure you would easily be able to find work somewhere. The only thing that concerns me is your age, because you're 31 you miss out on most of the working holiday visas. I think your best bet would find work under the table. Lots of people do it, I wouldn't think you would have a hard time finding anything.
The only question is where do you want to go? The world is a large place!

the flzing pig hostel in amsterdam will allow you to work in the hostel, give you a place to live, and a few euro for food. I know its not much but you can start there and see how it goes. They are very laid back and you can work for as long as you want (ie they wont kick you to the street unless you do something bad...). Just show up to the hostel and stay for at least 2 weeks and inquire about work. It is also on their website and message board at www.flyingpig.nl
My sympathies for your loss.
I hope this helps!

You can get a one year visa to New Zealand or a four month one to Oz. You can also do them together, you just have to be 18-35. check out http://www.bunac.org/usa/workaustralia/ . I'm planning to do it in the next year or two. I completely understand your desperation. Best of luck.

Hey Belle, I'm pretty sure for the working visa the age is 18-30

Work Australia is open to anyone who is a US citizen (holding a US passport) aged 18-30 inclusive and physically present in the USA during the application process.

....unless I'm wrong

You can get legal work as a nanny/au pair. Contact the embassy for the country you'd like to go to and they can assist you. My friend went over to Germany to au pair and has lived there for almost three years. He now works as a tour guide for bars in Berlin. He's loving it and disproves the thought that it's impossible to get stable work if you're a US citi.
Also, as people said, you can go and look for work under the table. Just wander until you find something!
If you want to stay in the casino business, tourist hotspots like the Bahamas would be a good place to look.
I'm sorry for you loss and wish you the best of luck. Please keep us updated!

the flying pig in amsterdam takes help for room and board, but they can't give you an answer ahead of time... they have 2 hostels in amsterdam, one right near the train station and main square and one down by vondelpark. but if your looking to make alittle more cash theres many hostels in italy (more southern, like roma and sicily) that i know hire travelers, and if you want you could always try to find a socialist commune of some kind... know they exist in the netherlands and germany. but i also know from friends in oz that its real easy for a backpacker to find jobs.
sorry for your loss, i know how it is, thats why i picked up and left before. you should just go for it!

oh i forgot to say in my last post... if your looking for peace of mind you should go volunteer on a kibbutz in israel. theres room and board, usually a stipened a month, which you don't necessarilly use since travel is cheap in nieghboring countries (suggestion egypt...**sinai desert) really awesome and friendly people from any country you can imagine, peace and tranquality, lots of drinking and partying and laughing, and meeting other peeps to travel with. and its a nice long ways away... if this sounds of interest and you want any suggestions of any names of kibbutziem to check into living/volunteering.
peace again. S.
