You can buy things similar to roach motels and such at just about any store - Wal Mart, K mart, large groceries. I think they're mostly universal (ie roach motel will take out ants) You can also get a spray (not a bomb) to put right on em. Also, if you keep your floors clean/food-crumb free, they sometimes go away if they're not too bad.

Good luck. Bug problems suck.

Boric acid. You can get it at the drug store. Mix it into a paste with water and put it in the areas wherever the little bastards are creeping into the house from. If you do a google search for it you should be able to come up with all sorts of fun info.

Ok ants are shit. I know, but I heard this tip from a radio show the other day and hopefully it'll work for u too, as it's a really cheap and easy method of riddin them. Just mix confectioner's sugar and baking soda together (b/c they wont take the baking soda on it's own) and stick that in the crevices, or w/e they're going & they should take it to the queen & bon voyage ants!

Now I'm hijacking this site temporarily for methods on getting rid of spiders. They're not as easily killed by the poison stuff seeing as they're usually geared toward other insects, but im pretty sure there's SOMEWHERE in my windows , panes or something where they're getting in (b/c my house is built on a hill and my bedroom is 1/2 buried in the hill so the window are about a metre & 1/2 off the bedroom floor). I've tried cleaning my room extensively but they just keep coming back!!! any suggestions?

You have to find out what they are eating and kill that first. Then you can squash the little bastards to no end.

If you live in America you can use Raid there is a spray and traps, the spray you will have to spray around every window frame, door frame and on the floor where it meets the walls to make sure you prevent them from entering your home. The Traps yu put down wherever you thing they may be getting in and that should do the trick, hey it worked for me.

And in case you really can't get rid of them get a gettaco, you know the Lizard, they will keep your house ant and cohroach free

I like the lizard idea. Also, rice flour works. it expands. Jeanie, isnt it baking powder? Thats the stuff that fizzles when liquid touches it and would explode their nasty little ant tummies. :greenguy:

I prefer to leave spiders alone, they keep the other noxious bugs down... When I lived in Arizona, though, I transplanted some geckos into my house. The house geckos kept the population of everything from getting established.

As for ants, once they're established (more than the odd one or two) they don't usually go away with the 'quick kill' stuff... they make these little ant bait traps that work really good, cause they take it home and kill the entire colony with it. I've found em good around pets, too, cause the dispensers make it so my critters don't get into it.

Crabapples in the corners of a room are supposed to keep spiders out, haven't tried it myself, but mother-in-law in Kansas does this.

No, I have no idea. It sounds strange to me, but my mother-in-law is one of the most rational, logical, unsuperstitious people I know (besides her son) and they both swear by it. Having tried it in Wisconsin, Texas, Virginia, California and Kansas with success, I guess they figure "who cares why it works, if it works"? I suppose there's something in crabapples that spiders don't like, so they stay away.

I have a crab apple tree in the backyard. Maybe I will try it sometime. Nothing else seems to eat them anyhow. Occasionally a deer eats its leaves but never the apples, so I put out some regular apples with salt for them sometimes.
