Default Youth Mobility Visa and travelling early

I have a German Youth Mobility Visa, it starts Sept 4th. I was thinking of flying into Austria or Netherlands on the 1st of September. Is this ok? Do I need to fly directly into Germany? Will the other countries refuse me entry becuase of the Schengen agreement and I am travelling early on a visa? I have a job in Frankfurt that I start on the 6th and would love to travel a little earlier then the 4th. I know I can't enter Germany before the 4th but what about other countries?

What country are you from? Would you be able to travel as a tourist?

If you normally have visa free entry to the Schengen zone, I would imagine they'd let you in. For visitors staying up to 3 months, the Schengen area has a unified policy but for staying more than 3 months it falls under each individual state's jurisdiction. So its not really Netherland's or Austria's business about your German visa.

I am from Canada but normally you have to travel through immigration of the country the visa is valid in to register. I don't want to fly one way in amsterdam to have them tell me i cannot enter.

Who issued the visa? Schengen or Germany? I figured if you're working you'd be there long term (over 3 months) and it would have been issued by the German government, but if its by Schengen...then of course fly in via Germany.
