4-20 (you have to say "four twenty" to be cool!) is supposedly derived from police lingo when they have a "pot alert" or whatever. It's like the police code for calling in whatever charge (selling, possession, not sure).

oh some guy told me that four twenty was a bill that some people were trying to pass to legalize marijuana (bill 420... or something like that).
