Man I wish that I was still in High School so that I could put up with bogus rules like that...

When I was in high school some girls went to cancun on Spring break not at all school realated... well they drank and got pictures of them drinking when they came back they had the pictures at school. they were suspended from school and couldn't participate in any school activities, also lost their parking permits. because the school has a policy that you are not alowd to drink on or off school grounds... oh and it is a public school... complete bull shit if you ask me.

Yeah when I went to Spain last summer if you were 18 at the time you had to get your parents to fill out a form saying it was ok for you to drink while your over there.

Afterlife - that really isn't such a bad idea. I mean, it's something.

Yeah I know it isn't surprising, but ya know. It's just stupid! My baby brother graduates this year and then the whole fam damily is out of public school finally.

anyone else vote on their survey thing?
35% think they should be punished
38% think since the teacher said it's ok that it's fine
and only
27% say what happens overseas stays overseas
^thats the answer we all know to be true!

Ah good ol' American retardation...

While it may be a school sponsored trip, if the parents don't have a beef with it, why should the school? They are seniors for goodness sake... about to, or already, be 18 and gonna have to take on some responsibility for their lives.... why must they have a puppet master waving over them... in 6 months they will be at college doing keg stands and beer bongs till they pass out on the front lawn with a snow cow. They might as well get an idea about drinking now... maybe they won't be so hard core later. I would say I blame the parents, but for once they aren't the ones causing an issue... so I blame the school administrators...

I say America should adopt the slogan... if its ok in Spain, it's ok here.

You know we are not getting the whole story, Im sure the school wasnt all up in arms about it at first, but when it surfaced in the local media, the school probably felt pressured into doing something about it, thats how it usually goes.

I could never understand this - the US has a drinking age of 21 - older than all other nations that i know of (not including religious doctrine)...
Why do you put up with it ? You didnt put up with prohibition, and a lot of people get angry when others of their rights are infringed.
Do you count as an adult or 18 or not ? can you vote at that age ? Are you tryed as an adult for crimes ? Why then the age limit ?

Oh and the other one that confuses me - are you legally allowed to gamble anywhere you want ? If not, why not ?

well....we don't really put up with it. almost everyone i know has drank plenty before turning 21...and many have frequented bars and clubs at that. i really don't get it either. go to any college and you will see plenty of people sipping the sweet stuff and most of them will be underage. im sure in the politicians minds there is some sort of link between age and responsibility, yet many many people of all ages get DUIs, so why 21, hell if i know....did it stop me? nope.....do i drive drunk, nope...do plenty of normal middle aged americans who live safe, conservative lives get ripped and drive evry few weeks...yep...so hell if i know....

Petition to Lower the U.S. Legal Drinking Age to 18

I'm 23 so it's not that I just want to drink... in fact I'll be legally drinking tonight.

Like TimmyJames said, they found some correlation between drinking and dui's/drunk driving accidents, so they up the age and restrictions. Yeah, we got rid of prohibition, but I don't think anyone's bending on this issue. I agree its stupid - we have soldiers dying overseas yet the ones that come home can't go out and have a beer (legally speaking of course) if they're under 21. Technically speaking, any state can lower the age, they'll just lose highway funding. In Wisconsin, you can drink if you're with a parent or legal guardian (including spouse) that's over 21. Yeah, I was drinking in bars (sans parents) at 19. Everyone that wants to drink (under 21) can pretty much. It's easy to get away with.

As for gambling, some places you can be 18 but most are 21. That's a new law as well. Though, what the hell was the explanation for that one?

Gambling is controlled by the individual states... most states are very restrictive of gambling. States such as Ohio have absolutely no casinos of any sort... they have a state lottery and horse tracks and that is about it. In Michigan we have Native American Casinos and the 3 public ones in Detroit... but other than those exceptions and the state lottery and bingo everything else is considered illegal in Michigan. It is based on a law from the 1800's that simply states, Gambling of any form is illegal, and everytime the state wants to add something they just add the line... except for act #xxx.

I personally feel that gambling should be a bit more open... even though compulsive gamblers would probably lose their shirt even faster.
