I was raised in a religion-free environment and my parents still never talk about religion. And there is no indication that any of my immediate family (as far back as great-grandparents) was religious. But I have found religion. It doesn't have a name and I've spent the last four years or so carefully creating it. It's pretty damn comforting (and I can say things like "damn").

When I saw this topic, I thought I had already replied to it...but after a search, realized it was one of the other 419 religion topics started by Jake.

So, I'll basically cut 'n paste my reply from the other topic:

In my life, I've vascillated between different ideas of religion. I was christened a Catholic...by high school, I considered myself atheist...in college, I began exploring spirituality...and now, I have discovered what may be the best reflection of my personal views. Called "The Path of the Righteous Gentile," I aim to follow the Seven Laws of Noah, which are:
1 - Establish courts of law
2 - Do not blaspheme
3 - Do not worship idols
4 - Do not murder
5 - Do not commit adultery
6 - Do not steal
7 - Do not eat the limb of a living animal

Those who follow these laws are B'nei Noach, the children of Noah.

For those interested, here is a site that explains things further. Chavurath B'nei Noach

I'm a Roman Catholic. And yeah, i go to Church every Sunday (I actually just came back from mass), and yeah, I love going, I found a priest I can follow his preach and not get lost or start thinking about what I'm gonna wear tomorrow to univ. I like the fact that I choose to go and that I could find a priest who (even though I dont always see things the way he does) he really helps understand the Bible in a way it can be contrasted with life's everyday situations.

I actually enjoyed coing to a Catholic school 'cause I learnt so much I wouldnt have other wise, and though perhaps at the time I not always enjoyed religion classes and had to study oh-so-much I now realise it's been great cause I have the literature to back up my belief.

I believe in respecting other people's beliefs as well... I find it quite annoying when someone tries to "convert" me... I think there are great things to learn from every religion, after all, it's centuries and centuries of wisdom all wrapped up together.

And yes, its not always easy to be a Catholic... BUT I LOVE IT ANYWAYS!

I LOVE being Catholic too Florencia. I love the quincenieras, lighting candles in a church, Ash Wednesday, I love all of its traditions. I get to start over every week after confession. I love La Virgen Maria. I loved doing my first communion and my confirmation. I think us Catholics have a special something in us.

I love getting pinched very hard by my pops when i was young for falling asleep during church. I love Cathedrals, I love Western Europe and Latin America. I love being Latin. I love them Catholic girls in their uniform too hehehe.

i was raised catholic and hated it. i found the rituals to be creepy and the traditions to be absurd. i didn't like the poofy poshness of church decor surrounding me as some guy, no better or worse or more important or less important of a person then me, stood there preeching humility. i hated the sit-stand-kneel-stand-sit-stand-sit-kneel-sit routine and still have no idea why this is needed to worship an omnipotent being who should in all rights have no vices, thus not need the sheepish cultish worship. the day i got to choose whether or not i wanted to go to church was a great day. it was like an alcoholic making that first step and saying no to a beer for the first time. bye bye crutch.

is their a god? i don't know. if there is does he/she want us gathering in large halls chanting and doing aerobics?

<----and these guys....don't even get me started.

was raised by two very different people (still don't know how they stay married) my father sent me off to catholic for all my life and my mom is a wiccan or pagan however you want to look at it... so i've learned to be thankful for everything and that as for the whole god thing i don't know if he's up there or not but i like everything around me.

There's such a negative connotation with being Catholic these days. There's nothing wrong with Catholocism in the theological sense. But all of the laws and dogma imposed by various overzealous Popes and the things they expect Catholics to believe and defend these days have little to do with the relation of the individual to God. At least, that's how I see it.

I believe in a higher being, I dont know if its the Christian one, who would?

I love Catholic traditions.

There is your answer. Do I need to spell it out?

By the way, what has a Catholic ever done to you? You speak very harshly about the religion. Jump on the Anti-Catholic bandwagon have you?
