I don't have a job, but I hate not having a job. It's not so much that I have ever really hated a job, just usually the people associated with said job. My favorite job would have to do with traveling and some sort of business type work, working with people. I think. Or a professional poker player, or doing some sort of custom work, like cars or the such. But then again all those jobs would include some travel. So once again. Ahhh...

i work in the canadian army, specifically the infantry. but i'm also a university student so it can get pretty stressful. classes on weekdays then work on some weeknights, some weekends, and full time all spring/summer.
it's strange cuz we get paid by the day (or half day) instead of by the hour. so i make just as much money working a 6-hour day as i make in a 24 hour day!
also the work ranges from the ridiculously easy to the intensely demanding. some days in the field i sleep over ten hours a day, but at other times i go three days without sleep.
of course there's the coolness factor of handling expensive gear and blowing stuff up
on the other hand i have to spend months at a time away from home. i love to travel but not to these places.
but it's good pay, rewarding work, and the people are fantastic.

yea man actually the pay setup at this place isnt all that good but it's about the best you can find in Flagstaff since it's a college town.
Starting at this place is 8 dollars an hour between 9am - 5:30pm and the rest of the hours are on 25% commission which can be pretty good depending on what I have to do. And what I charge the idiots.
Oh and i get a truck to use for whatever i want whenever i want so its a good deal for me!
and you dont make 6 figures unless you own the company and even then I dont think its quite that much... maybe but i dont think so

Hey Jake - have you hit Mogollon's in Flagstaff yet? The pitchers are good and cheeeap!
Yeah, I hate to rain on the bitch parade as well, but I love my job. My co-workers are great (although one new guy is getting on my nerves a bit) and my boss is like a pal. And I even get to travel sometimes. I complain about constantly being busy, but despite the minor drawbacks, it's the best job I've ever had.. and the one I've stayed at the longest. I guess I like working for Ze French. I'm so un-American. I can hear them coming to take me to Gitmo any minute now!

No I don't hate my job (hate is such a strong word)
But I am terribly bored of it - it's the same darn thing day in and out...

i LOVE my job... There, I said it! I'm in the Army, as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) technician... literally the bomb squad for the Army. Nothing quite like the rush of challenging your local mad bomber to a game of "who's better at their job"
... so far, I'm ahead

I don't mind my primary full-time job. I can do it in my sleep though, so I'm a little bored. But I have an awful lot of freedom here, which is going to be difficult for me to give up when the time comes to move on.
I have noticed that in a lot of cases, how people feel about their jobs can be directly influenced by how they feel about their lives in general and what they have going on personally. You could have the best paying, most interesting job ever but if you're living in a town that you hate or if you don't have anything of interest to keep you busy outside of work, you're going to be unhappy to a certain degree. Some people can handle this better than others, obviously.

I guess there are parts of my job I really like (you know, the whole flying part is pretty fun), but there are parts I could do without. I know that you can't like your job all the time, but it seems like there are some people who stick around in jobs that make them unhappy (and then that unhappiness reflects in their off- duty lives) just because they are scared of a new start or the money is too regular (it doesn't have to be good money- sometime just regular money is enough for some).
My question to the TP forum is: what influenced your job choices? If given the opportunity to choose another job, what takes precidence: enjoying your job or having the ability to be stable and get (or pay for) the things that will make your life enjoyable?
Oh, and Kuwait is much better than points north of the fenceline.
