I can definitely relate to you. Ever since my first trip abroad all I want to do is travel, and it's hard for me to set other goals in life because they just get in the way of my travel plans. It's hard to settle down and try to start a career -- not enough vacation time; to go back to school -- too much money; to start a family -- not enough freedom. These things are very important to most people, and they are to me too, but so is travelling.
So I think the trick is to find the middle ground somewhere. Try to find something you love (or even like) to do for a living and fight tooth and nail to fit travelling in the best you can. It wont be easy to find, but like it'll be worth it once you do. One thing I'll never do, however, is relegate myself to mundane life for the sake of stability. I hope this made some sort of sense.

i think traveling is one of the most important gifts you can give youself.
the global knowledge you gain is incredible- but i suggest not doing it all at once (or one trip after the other... after the other... after the other!)
use your time to go to college, and major in something that will help you understand everything you are experiencing. I am doing the political/journalism road.
A person is a billionth of a pin point on a map- it is a shame not to explore it... all of it!

yes yes yes...i feel your pain, but you know what, everything is as it should be. you cannot control the outside world, and you may not even be able to control yourself (that is a free will debate). as far as the sacrifice in order to travel, like many others have said, travel is so beneficial. you can read how to swim, but unless you get in the water, you will never know. that is what traveling, meeting others, experiencing life is about. if you fell bored with life/stuck in life now, imagine it without the adventures of traveling and the planning of your future trips. i do know how you feel. i feel like i am underachieving and missing out on certain oppritunities, but even the choices we don't make, or things we pass on, lead us somewhere new. im not sure if that ramble helped, but i hope you get the point i was trying to make, and i hope it may help a little.

There's seems to be this requirement out there to 'make your mark' or something. I have the travel bug myself, and as time goes by, you find yourself with more and more obligations that will make it tougher to travel. The time spent now, to me, is well spent.
In the end, if you find that you really just love to travel, then why not channel your career goals to include that? There are tons of jobs out there that people frankly don't want to take because they require so much travel. That allows you to integrate your love with your work (and probably will free up more time to pursue your other 'hobbies' - I hate what that term implies, 'passions' is probably more accurate)
As far as setting stuff aside for later or building wealth, well, think about it in real terms.... much as i like to have the latest-greatest-bigger-better-faster-more, other than having a decent place to come home to, I really don't need all that crap, and can get along quite well without it. Setting aside money for later (old age/retirement etc) is a relatively simple task, and can be done in a way that you don't really miss it.
Last, but not least, there are an awful lot of 'study abroad' programs at colleges worldwide, so it's possible to combine travel/work/school into one single adventure. Sometimes, it's just a matter of taking the plunge and doing it.
I don't think that time spent traveling is ever wasted. I know that personally, I return from my trips a better person. I'm happier with my place in the world, and I've been deeply touched by the people that I've met along the way. I feel I'm a richer man for it!
(hell, just hanging around the boards here with you guys pretty well confirms it for me!)
