Hey Lizzie, Welcome to the boards! Are you going to be in Madrid BEFORE going to the Running of the Bulls? Because there are weekly free international meetups in Madrid full of students and expats at local bars/pubs that you can meet and plan something with.

Also, David, who runs that meetup periodically organizes day/weekend trips to cities outside of Madrid of concerts/festivals and such. It's really cool and cheap and you make a lot of friends on these trips.

There are more meetups in Madrid and other parts of Spain on Meetup.com, but the one I mentioned earlier I've been to a lot and made many friends there.
