I myself probably wouldn't get tattooed on the move for a variety of reasons but if you are looking at a place to get a tattoo I would just do a little inspection of my own to make sure that they are meeting all the standards I expect at home. If you can't see an autoclave, ask them to show it to you. Make sure the razor is disposable and that they throw it out. Make sure they open the needles in front of you, from new packaging. Make sure they are using squirt bottles for ink, and those tiny wells for YOUR ink. if all this is going on, it should be safe no matter where you are. Maybe ask them about the ink too.

Have fun =)

I also wouldn't risk getting a tattoo done in Mexico or any other developing country for that matter. I completely understand you wanting to get a tattoo to remember your trip by though. My suggestion would be to have a tattoo designed based on something you saw or experienced during your trip BUT have it done in your own country! (But I'm a wimp and not too adventurous when it comes to stuff like that!)

You gotta think not only of the hygiene in the actual tattoo studio, but also of how you're going to keep your new tat clean and well looked after while you're on the road. It may not be easy to keep it as clean and protected as you need to for it to look nice. I agree with Brooke, perhaps get the tattoo once you're back... that way you'll have had your whole trip to find inspiration.

exactly. sun & water are not good for fresh tattoos & ain't that what mexico's all about (don't actually know, never been).
