Default Car Audio . . . anyone a fanatic?

Just curious, any other punks car audio hobbiests?

I'm a bit pissed that my JBL 1200.1 amp won't fit under the seat in my new truck, and my 12" Audiomobile Mass is too beefy for the truck too, requires too much airspace is just too massive.

And I don't feel like messing with the stereo yet anyways, but it doesn't have an axillary input, and FM transmitters just don't cut it. And I'm not about to go back to the CD ages.

And does anyone know just what causes oxidation? Is it simply moisture, or is there some technical reason behind it, faulty connections or something?

it usually has to do with moisture, salt water is the worst, being by an ocean or from road salt. also loose connections caused by vibrations. i try to use loctite on all threads and dielectric grease covering all bare metal and between connections.

i'm getting all technical tonight.

Wow, I figured someone would be an audiophile. Oh well . . . anyways, just ordered a new head unit that has USB inputs, so I can just plug a hard drive in and have my entire collection without any hassles of iPods and CDs.

back when i had a car yeah i was, until i raced a guy who had the exact same guy and who should have been putting out more power to the ground, but his radio setup was actually drawing power away from his ignition system.

but the whole motorcycle thing ruined it even further,

I loved my car stereo.

Until someone stole it.

By breaking one of the windows.

WHEN THE DOORS WERE UN-FUCKING-LOCKED.

Carry on...

I used to be more of one a few years ago, then I just never had money, and now I don't have a car. As it is, my car back home only has a Kenwood EZ-500 stereo with Pioneer 6.5" 4 ways in the back.. I was slowly working towards something, but oh well such is life.

Once I get a vehicle out here, I plan on getting more into it again.

Used to be, used to sell the stuff, too. Legitimately, even!

Current setup in the 'Chop is bare bones. An older Alpine CDA9815 that has been now in two vehicles. I pulled the sub and amp out due to lack of space when I'm hauling gear and food around to jobs.

But my SQ system was pretty slick- the same Alpine, a JL 10W3D2 in a box I built myself out of 1.5" MDF (sealed), off a JL 250/1 amp. Fronts were MB Quart 5.25" components hidden mounted. AudioControl Three.1 xover, but when I went to the Alpine I removed it. Wasn't necessary since the Alp had so much internally. Rears were Boston Rally series 5.25"s. BTW, 2001 VW Jetta. Integrated XM receiver and Alpine iPod receiver.

I've run lots of different gear over the years but Alpines have always done me well.

Nice! I knew we had some other folks on here.

Sorry to hear that Space Virgin! I guess crooks aren't the smartest ones.

I used to be really into it, kinda got out of it because I had other priorities and now I don't have much money. But now with my new truck, I can't stand having to use the FM transmitter to use my iPod, and the stock HU doesn't even play MP3 CDs. So that kinda forced me to fork out the money on a new HU. I'm gonna hold off on the sub/amp for now, not sure where to put them anyways, and I want to get a job before I do that.

I had a Pioneer DEH-7300 in my Ghettovan back in my Civic, but it was showing that it wouldn't last forever, and I didn't have the original HU, so I left it in to sell the car. But I took my JBL 1200.1 and 12" with me, but now neither will fit in the truck. Grrrrr . . . I could just build a box to go on the back seats and take it out when I need them, but what a hassle. So I think when I get the money I'll buy a smaller sub, not sure what yet. And that amp, damn I love that beast, puts out 1380wrms, actually tested at that, but it won't fit under a seat. I've seen pics of amps in my truck mounted on the roof, but I'm a bit hesitant to mess up the truck too much.

I used to do a lot of installs for the neighbors and friends, built many boxes. Do you know what that computer program is that graphs out responses with your box/port dimensions? Its been years, I've forgotten . . . but hopefully I'll have a job and be bulding a new sub box soon.
