I hope everything turns out alright... those unknown viral infections are the worst. They can have different effects everytime and are hard to pinpoint. I'll keep you both in my thoughts.

Court, stay with us champ!

Default Late Update

Sorry guys that this is so late. I had ever intention of posting around seven but I passed out. Not much has changed. He hasn’t had any seizures, his vitals are good and he wakes up every few hours and eats jello.

We got his MRI back and everything is normal. Which is great. Now we are waiting for his spinal tap results which could take anywhere from a day to a week or so. Hopefully those will give us a for sure on what is going on. The kidney specialist said that his kidneys are “OK.” They aren’t getting worse but they aren’t improving. He said it wold take a few days for them to improve.

Right now he is really disoriented when he wakes up. He is experiencing short term memory loss. Every time he wakes up we have to repeat how he got here. So if you have talked to him the last few days he might not remember. But I’m keeping a journal so when he is better I can show him who called. We did let him get on his computer and check his myspace. email and travelpunk. So he got to see all the kind words everyone wrote. Though most likely he won’t remember.

Anyway I’ll let you guys know how he’s doing tomorrow. And if anyone would like the number to the hospital just message me. Thanks again guys for being so thoughtful. Keep praying and keep him in your thoughts.

Sarah

yes she told me. He just woke up and I told him you've called everyday. He looks shocked when I tell him people call, but he'll remember eventually.

Default Monday Report

Sorry guys that it has taken so long to update but the doctors take their time making rounds and I try to update after they have all been here.

The good news: Court’s kidneys are getting better!!! With in a few days they will be back to normal.

The not-so-great news: They still don’t know what is causing the seizures. They have a list of options such as viral infection and tick exposure, but nothing guaranteed. We are still waiting on some culture reports. Hopefully they will spread some light on this issue. Right now they have him on two different seizure medicines, a kidney medicine, and the tick exposure medicine and something else that I believe is for a viral infection. Basically they are throwing stuff at him to see what works. Really it just depends on what doctor you talk to. All are unsure, but each has his own opinion.

As for his mental health, he is getting better. He is still missing huge chunks over the last 6 months, but mostly just the last week. But everyday he becomes more like himself and stays awake for longer periods. Once again of you call him I write it down in my private journal so he can check it out late in case he doesn’t remember.

If I haven’t been personally updating you guys please forgive me. I’ve got my plate full. This week Court and mine’s lease on our house is up and we were suppose to move. So I’m relying on my roommate to move our stuff to my mom’s. It might come down to me having to go home for a day to move all our stuff. I don’t want to leave, but I might have to. Also for those of you who personally know me and/or my mom, I just found out that she is going into surgery tomorrow for her gall bladder. It is a in and out procedure so I’m not to worried and she has asked me to stay here with Court since he needs me more than her.

Overall Court is stable. No seizures, he’s talking and even laughing sometimes. Feel free to message me for the hospital number and call for an update.

Let’s just pray they figure out what is wrong so we can get out of here.

peace and love to all

Sarah

Hang in there, we're sometimes given these challenges so that we can learn how truly strong we are. I hope your mom recovers soon, and that your friends and other family are able to give you the support you and Court need right now.

Default Tuesday morning Update

Courtland’s regular doctor just left. He told us his kidney’s were back to normal and doing great! (YAAAAA!!)

We also got some of the culture reports back. They tested for the main three kinds of tick exposures. They were all negative. So they are stopping the Doxycycline along with the kidney medicine. Now all we are waiting for are the West Nile Virus results and the Herpes results. I don’t think I told you guys that one of the causes of the encephalitis (besides the West Nile Virus) is the Herpes Virus. NOT GENITAL HERPES, BUT THE COLD SORE VARIETY. The neurologist says that he sees one case every year where the virus goes into the brain.

Besides that Courtland is doing ok. He still is groggy and has short term memory loss but most of that is due to the medication.

Anyway I’ll update again later on in the day. Thanks so much for your guys nice words and sweet thoughts. It means a lot.

Sarah

I've actually had a friend who freaked out with his first herpes outbreak. Freaked out, as in medically. He was crazy sick/contagious/rashy. I believe also the "cold" variety not the "genital" variety.

Glad the kidneys are in the clear! Stay strong and YOU get some rest too PL!
