Well, this is going to be my first B-day by myself! Its going to be wierd. I wonder if I'll remember it without having people reminding me all the time that it is coming up! It is June 6th, and I will be in France, so there is always the possibility of going to the Normandy beaches, seeing as how it will be the 60th anniversary of D-Day, all though that might be a little bit of a sombre way to spend my 20th!
ANYWAYS... the real meaning of this thread is to find out whether anyone has any SWEET suggestions for B-days abroad, or have had any AMAZING b-day stories from when they were travelling. :bday:  |
not a birthday story but I just spent christmas alone in singapore, I went to the night safari christmas eve and met some really nice people who were staying in my hotel. We talked and they found out I was alone so they kind of adopted me. We had a really good night and on the way back to the hotel I fell asleep. :sleepy: They woke me up when we got there which I was really happy and gratefull about. They were leaving Christmas day to go somewhere else, otherwise they said we could have had dinner together. Anyway christmas morning came along and I left the room for breakfast. There was a box of chocolates and a little bear sitting at the door with a note that said "here is a friend so you don't spend christmas alone". I do not know an address or anything to send them a thankyou letter but it was one of the kindest things a strainger has ever done for me.
So there you go. I am sure your bithday will be fantastic!! |
Two years ago I spent my birthday visiting a friend in London, getting very drunk at the Sherlock Holmes pub near Trafalgar Square. Damn, that was fun...
|
I had just about forgotten about my birthday when I was traveling in central europe until my friends reminded me by a text message on my phone :)
"Oh yeah! It IS my birthday" Next two birthdays will be in Morocco. Yeesh, my next b-day in the states will be when I'm 27... at the earliest. Only 7 days left. |
My 24th birthday was spent abroad. I had just visited family in Sheffield, and took the train down to London that day. I was tired after the trip, so I took a nap. I slept way too long, and when I woke up (it was a Sunday), there weren't a lot of options for celebrating. Most of the pubs and off license places were closed (or very near). I had just arrived in London, so I didn't want to go clubbing alone. The hostel I was staying in had a bar downstairs, and a basement area they rented out to companies for events. I went to the reception desk to ask for suggestions on what I could do. They said that one of the Virgin Megastores was having their X-mas party downstairs and I should crash the party. I'm kind of a shy person, so that just wasn't my thing. Well, they insisted. One of the guys that was working the event (hostel staff) brought me down there. I drank all night for free, and met the coolest people ever. A group of about 10-12 of us hung out until around 6am drinking, etc... It looked to be one of the most disappointing b-days I would ever have, but turned out to be one of the most memorable. The next day was certaintly memorable as well. One of the worst hangovers I've had by far :nono:
Fedfe, I hope you have an awesome one. |
fedfe-thats so funny cuz I was just thinking the exact same thing! i arrive in fiji april 8th and my birthday is on the 15th...The thought of spending my 22nd birthday alone kinda depresses me, but then again I prob won't be alone at all! And i;ll look around at my beautiful surroundings and think how can rainy vancouver compare to this? How many ppl get to celebrate their birthday amongst palm trees and swaying hammocks? I'm not a big birthday person, like i never have parties or anything, but i like spending the day with my family and friends. So my fingers are crossed that i'll meet some amazing individuals on that day.
BP-what an awesome story.. |
yeah really, all great stories.
its going to be wierd. for sure. plus its my twentieth...i will cease to be a teen! finally! haha. I guess you're right Dio, i'll just have to sit on the champs elysees and admire my surroundings.... wow, this could really turn out to be the best birthday ever! |
Kassandra13...
new avatar eh :jawdrop: |
yeah ozpacka I was thinkin the same.....yooowww just a lil racey :stoked: First it was the legs and well now...!
back to the topic. At work (supermarket) easter stock had come in. I thought when is it? I then realised it will be the first celebration I will miss away from home. Im guessing that Ill buy some eggs and give them out to the people in my hostel, that'll make it as least feel like its easter. but for my birthday - Itll be my 24th. I think I will tell everyone its my bday to score some drinks :) Actually I might do this a few times at different places with different people  hehe Im such a scammer |
Wot a story BP! How sweet!
Fedfe, I just turned 20 on feb 11th, its kinda scary not bein a teenager anymore, thought maybe I should start thinking about growing up a bit. NAAAAAAAAAA, not just yet anyways!!!! :stoked: Have a good 1!!! |
All great stories and suggestions. But, to take advantage of your surroundings, how about going to Normandy for your birthday, finding a vet in a bar, and telling him it's your birthday. See if he'll let you buy HIM a drink if he'll tell you his story.
Could be an experience you'll remember... worldwidemike |
not a bad idea wwm! that could prove to very enlightening! i might just do that
haha, hayley, thats also the other side of the coin isn't it? i'm done being a teenager :taz: .... but I don't want to grow up yet! damn thats scary!!! :o |

I'm going to be spending this birthday somewhere in Europe, maybe Vienna. I haven't really thought a lot about it. I don't have birthday parties very often, but last years was memorable. My best friend ended up puking out her bedroom window while I laid spreadeagle on the floor laughing at her. Oh, memories.... |
My birthday will have already passed (june 10th - gemini  ) by the time I'm over in Europe... I'll have to do a mock-birthday party for myself. Maybe all of us who are doing the running of the bulls can do a make-up-birthday celebration for everyone who's birthday has already passed.... as if we really needed another reason to drink
I am however thinking about christmas and newyears... it's either going to be thailand or australia. Both would rock! |
spacevirgin-- :worship: aries...aaaah yes nothing like aggressive, outgoing, loud female aries..What we want, we will get...right..
|
get-what-we-want, happy-go-lucky females... yep, that's us. No wonder we make such good travelers! ...although there's also the softy side, which I try my damndest not to let many people see. :torch:
|
