I voted...
• Taj Mahal
• Stonehenge
• Pyramids of Giza
• Petra
• Great Wall of China
• Easter Island
• Angkor Wat
It was cool to see how many of their candidates I'd been to!

Nice use of the "bullet points" Mike! Never bothered to try it. I shall copy that format now !
Why can't I vote for all of them?!!!
They are all amazing and one day, I will visit all of them.
But since I can only pick 7. Here's what I chose- - Taj Mahal
- Stonehenge
- Colesseum
- Alhambra
- The Great Wall of China
- The Acropolis
- Easter Island Statues
But man, the Castle and St Basils Cathedral and the Eiffel Tower and Machu and Petra.......yada, yada, yada....

I am not sure I could pick a list of 7. What I can do is eliminate a few. Specifically, I would eliminate the statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower and the Sydney Opera House. To me, based on what we can do technologically today (and in the near past, say last 80-100 years) those structures just do not compare to the more ancient ones such as the Great Wall, which was built basically by hand thousands of years ago, or the Pyramids. What makes certain sites wonderous to me is thinking about how a low tech society could build those structures in the first place...truly amazing!!

I think the Great Pyramid of Giza was a wonder of the world already.

I'd have to agree with LFoD. I was totally gonna post that but you beat me to it. They sure look nice but aren't the marvels of engineering and history that the others are.

I like the modern buildings, they show how advanced we've gotten, these buildings just simply could not have been made just by throwing 1000s of slaves or conscripts at it. The Opera house does what it's supposed to do (funnel sound) exceptionally well but there just not as impressive as the old stuff which seems to be on a grander scale. But the list of modern stuff is very short, the list is very short full stop.

Yes, they are the only still existing wonder. That's why I'm thinking it's impossible they don't make it to the updated list.

Don't you watch quiz shows? That makes it the carry-over champ.

Yeah, I thought the same, too. But after all, they ARE the pyramids!!!
And Jamie, I did the same reverse process of eliminating ones to get my seven. What's up with that temple in japan, though? Not much of a pic of it in the main page? I figured you might know more about it. Is there something special about the place for those too lazy to click on the link...?
Oh, and thanks Esther! I happen to think you're pretty cool, too...

why the hell is the sydney opera house in there?!? hahahahahahahaha
i love how that's in the same collection as the great pyramids. ridiculous.
what's really sad is that there has to be a new one, that over the years 6/7 of the wonders have been destroyed. what were they again? hanging gardens of babylon, that statue of zeus....what else?

^^^They were It doesn't mean that this vote will really make history. I believe they'll have to go through some legal ways in order to have the new wonders officially recognized.
This site gives more 7 wonders, I had never heard of before, like the 7 natural wonders of the world, or underwater wonders. http://wonderclub.com/AllWorldWonders.html
Pretty neat, gives even more travel ideas ! So much to see... so little time...

I can't believe some of the things on that list. I agree with the opera house, statue of liberty and things like that too but Neuschwanstein?? Come on!! I'd take Mont St. Michel over that any day.
My List:
-Great Pyramids
-Great Wall
-Machu Pichu
-Colosseum
-Easter Island Dudes
-Stonehenge ("One of the greatest henges in the world!")
-The Acropolis (The fact that they tapered the collums and stuff like that so it would look right is amazing to me)

As for the original 7 wonders, I always thought the Colossus of Rhodes seemed like the coolest of the bunch, even though its actual size is disputed. Just the idea of a gigantic warrior statue that stands astride a harbor mouth is pretty cool. Like something out of the Lord of the Rings.

But these are great structures, it's the fact that there standing at all that makes them wonders they used completely new concepts in architecture you can't really compare them to those older structures which basically used man power and craftsmanship to look impressive.
