Default Trashy Reading on the Beach--Recommendations?

in all my excitment for planning for my trip, i have been neglecting a vacation coming up at the end of this month...*tisk tisk*
4 days on the beach in st. maartin...i can't wait!!

right now i'm working on fountainhead and i love it, but come on, this is beach time...au naturale...i need something mindless...something i would never be caught dead reading on the subways of nyc!

any ideas?

I have been reading John D. MacDonald novels on the beach the last two summers. I read two of them in Maui and I read eight of them last summer on Cape Cod. They are detective fictions novels based mostly in Florida. Plenty of murder, savy detectives, beach babes, and sex. Great combination.

My brother-in-law has a huge collection of them and I started reading them when I stayed at my sister's house in Maui. The things I discover during my travels.

I looove John Grisham's novels during the summer. They're fun, easy reads and most of them are movies now... so u can rent them after u finished the book and realise why reading's much better than watching a 2h 30' film. The problem with J. Grisham though, is that you provably already saw all the movies first.

first, major kudos to you for reading Fountainhead--I'm a gigantic Ayn Rand fan!! (seriously, I read Atlas Shrugged at least once a year!)

Nora Roberts is an excellent trashy read; see also Jude Deveraux; see also Sandra Brown (Exclusive would be top pick for her).

For lite reading that's incredibly funny try:
John Welter's Begin to Exit Here (or other books)
or any Christopher Moore book
or Terry Pratchett's discworld books are humourous too, as are his others

ummm........Jennifer Weiner is trashy summer read, but I'm not a fan of her low self-esteem main characters
also Sophie Kinsella's shopoholic books are good vacation reads, but once again I'm not a fan of her main character

not trashy, but great stories are the Harry Potter books, really good series on a similar line but with a female lead are Philip Pullman's Dark Materials series.
really good also are Gregory Maguire's books that are new takes on classic fairy tales: Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister is my favourite of his
