Where DON'T you want to go?
Okay so random reverse questions as we are all travel lovers, but there's got to be a few places you just have zero desire to go to or see... So where are they?
Here's mine:
I have not a bit of desire to go to France. Actually, I think it's mostly Paris I don't care to see (and I actually DO appreciate art too!) but also just France. I've had a lot of friends who went to Scotland and I've never had a big desire to go there, nor do I have a huge desire to go to Japan.
So there it is.

Wow, I really don't know... If I were given a plane ticket to anywhere, I'd just go. i guess I would not go to Somalia. But totally out of ignorance.

Good question. If I had a plane ticket then I would go anywhere. But if I had to pay for it...I would prob not go to Japan. Really doesnt interest me. I think its because we have a STRONG japanese culture here. Also China doesnt interest me. Really I think it has a lot to do with being around that culture so much in Vancouver.

I think Vancouver has the largest Chinatown outside of China. Something like that.
I just watched Hotel Rwanda and that gave me the heebie jeebies on going there or near it. I know that was based on the civil unrest there a few years back, but still.
I'm not a big fan of places that have or recently had such lawlessness. Life is short as it is and I do not have any intention on expediting the inevitable .

wow. It takes a lot to admit that there are just places you dont wanna go. Good for you. sometimes there's so much pressure to "see the whole world" and stuff. Nice work picnic.
Now, as for me, since we're being honest, besides for Pamplona, i dont really wanna go to Spain. And I have no rational reason for this, i just dont ever care to hit it up when i go to Europe. Its a totally ridiculous feeling, i'm sure i would love it, but i couldn't care less about checking it off my list.

There are places I wouldn't want to be because of the current situation (like war zones and major conflict areas), but I'd still be interested in going once things settle down. For example, I would have loved to travel around Iraq before the war. Of course, I'd visit Kurdistan (the autonomous region in the north) tomorrow if I could.
For some reason I've never had any interest in Germany (only stayed overnight a couple of times). A lot of people seem to love it though, so I'll have to give it a chance the next time I'm in Europe. I also saw a lot of nominations in the 'world's most beautiful women' thread, which is hard to ignore...

apart from the places i just wouldn't go because of political reasons, there's not many places I don't want to see. I don't really want to go to antarctica....
I know it's kinda twisting the question but the only place I have been before and not left thinking, wow I can't wait to go back, is Russia. I loved my week that I spent in St Petersburg and Moscow and while everyone else in my group was saying they'd love to come back sometime, or to see more of russia, I felt that I saw the stuff I wanted to see and I was really happy with my russian experience... I just have absolutely no desire to go back. wierd eh. could i have had the perfect holiday?

I have to admit... I don't have a particularly strong desire to visit the nordic countries (Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Finland etc.)

I'll go anywhere, once. I'm of the mentality that I can't judge anything until I've seen/experienced it for myself. Even some of the most terrifying places in the world can contain so much beauty.

Most of Subsaharan Africa holds little appeal (though I would like to do a safari in Kenya). I don't really have a desire to go to Bolivia or Paraguay, but would like to see Peru and Ecuador. Vietnam and Laos haven't made my list of places to visit, but Cambodia and Thailand have. Japan looks cool as does China.
Believe it or not, Hawaii, is kind of eh... to me. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be complaining about going there but I think I would rather visit Iceland and a place like Fiji, but I live in Tampa so I would be going for the volcanoes and luaus more than the beaches. I don't picture ever being in LA unless it is LAX on a trip to Asia.

Of course in some places, one visit may very well preclude any further travel.

dunno really...wouldn't want to go to a place with a high murder rate or where there are plagues. Also as I am insanely afraid of needles anywhere that needs inoculations are hard for me.

I'm willing to give anywhere a shot, even places I'm sure I won't love (such as China or Taiwan - way too densely packed for my tastes). If I haven't been there, I want to see it.
As for places I feel no need to go back to: The Bahamas (too touristy), Gibraltar (I recommend checking it out, but you only need to see it once), Auckland (just a big ol' city)

True, but I cant live my life in fear. What happens, happens and I can only believe that it will be meant to be. People have died for a lot stupider reasons. I like to think that when I die, I'll die living

Second to San Francisco, I believe.
Personally, I avoid war zones - that's my husband's job.
When I was facing the prospect of extended solo travel for the first time, my mom asked why not Japan, and at the time I really had no great desire to go there. It wasn't an ambivalence to the culture (also growing up in Vancouver, Asian influences were strong chez moi), it was more that after studying history, art, Western Civ, French and Spanish for umpteen years, Europe was a huge draw. Later, when we had the opportunity to move to Japan, I was thrilled, and loved every minute of our three years there. When she found out that we were moving there, my mom remembered my earlier reluctance and was surprised how much my attitude had changed. I think we just kind of prioritize, and something that doesn't appeal today or this year might, some time down the road. A few years back we contemplated a move to India, and I was enthusiastic about it, but right now, it isn't high on my list. I know if I was handed a ticket I'd go, and I'd be blown away, but right now it isn't a high priority.
I don't feel guilty about the places I DON'T want to go, because I know that if the opportunity comes up down the road I'll go and love it - and I think things happen at the time they're supposed to happen in your life, and for particular reasons, so obviously I'm not ready for what India has to teach me yet.

I'm not too keen on Indonesia and I think that is because everyone from Perth seems to go there on package holidays and there would be a few too many tourists.

^^^I'd agree with that.I think it's also the bad rap Indonesia has gotten in the Aus media lately. I'm sure there are many wonderful places in Indonesia to check out but the idea of just 'going to Bali' doesn't for it for me.
