I dunno about you guys but im really really glad that they're taking all these safety precautions. All this shows is that the bloody system is working and im happy as hell that they figured out this plot BEFORE anyone got blown up. I dont care if i have to stand in like for 12 freakin hours as long as i land safely on the other side. In one piece i might add.

as I said before I am all greenlight on security...

That said, I am ditching the UK (expcept London since I have to fly in) and going to Ireland instead. I also read on Ryanairs sight that there is a green light for laptops, cameras, etc. You just have to send them thru the x-ray seperately which is what I do in the USA anway...

Viva Ireland!

New route is in my departing... thread.

I'm at Stansted now and other than about 25 extra guys carrying MASSIVE guns, everything is fairly normal.

There was a bit of a delay at passport control but hey that's expected. My flight was from Sevilla and everything was allowed in a carry on that is normally allowed.

There were a few flights that are a bit late arriving or with luggage arriving late, but that happens even without this security issue.

I'm off to Heathrow in about 2 hours and we'll see how that goes...I'm prepared to wait, so I don't think it will be that bad really.

I'm coming home...yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!

I thought it was weird that no one mentioned this already. But have you guys seen the mess going on at Heathrow Airport? I'm not gonna blab about the obvious state of worry all those people must be in... just being stuck there at the air port, no chance of going back home/going abroad any time soon, and knowing that today was the day that they almost died...

Instead I'm just gonna complain about how this affects all of us on our future travels. According to the news paper here in Buenos Aires, now you can't board any flights leaving from the UK with a carry on bag. You can only board with a transparent bag with the absolute necesities: documents and prescription glasses, and eventualy baby formula for children. And that's it. No technology devices, not even a cell phone. Those have to be checked in with your luggage.

Oh well... what is the world coming to?
[/b]
Well, unfortunately, it's finally starting to come home to people that the terrorists respect no borders, and that the impact of their actions is indeed global.

This is not the first time this particular plan has been foiled, either!

No, I'd be pissed off at our society that allows such killers to develop fucked up ideologies.

Terrorism is a failure of society, not of security. The airports, airlines, and screening staff can only do so much. Anyone bound and determined to cause damage inevitably will.
[/b]
Not my society - we develop more mundane fucked-up killers (Aryan Nation, ELF/ALF, random serial killers, etc.)

I'm all for giving up a few "rights" so that we can have safer planes, but I'm also scared shitless about putting my laptop and other expensive equipment in my checked suitcase.... If this is still going on in Jan (which who knows the way the gov. flip-flops) then I'll pay the extra $200 and fly straight to Sweden and skip London.

Funny thing, or maybe not... I was flying a day before this all happened and when I went through the sensor they pulled me off to the side and hand searched me. No big deal, but I'm guessing maybe the blue hair had something to do with it? :D

I'm flying out of 'Vegas and into LAX on Monday.... I know I can't take liquids, gels, and makeup, but what about powdered makeup and my ipod and cameras? CAn I take this stuff on domestic?
[/b]
You're not being picked out based on appearance, normally it's either a completely random thing (e.g. pulling every 10th passenger out of line) or you're targeted because of certain flags (buying one-way tickets, purchase online, etc).

That may change, finally.... British authorities suggest 'profiling' at security checks...

Sad but true, it makes more sense to search the person that fits the usual terrorist profile than it does to check out the harried mom with her four children in tow!

Last, but not least...

I disarm bombs professionally. You can conceal a lot of explosives within a laptop, portable dvd player etc, as well as all those devices give you several means of initiation for bombs, as well. (cell phones were used on the Madrid train bombs). With the prevalence of these devices, they're the easiest to conceal in the open. If you don't wish to put your laptop under the plane, ship it via UPS/Fedex/DHL or whatever.

Simply because they caught some of the people involved with the plot, the compartmented nature of their organization ensures that not everyone will get caught immediately. The heightened security is a result of that fact. By the same token, the relaxing of security is going to be a result of their continued investigations, where they discover how widespread this plot goes, and determine if they have actually foiled it, or if there are more out there.

Better Safe Than Sorry!

Oooh, do you have one of those tshirts that says "BOMB SQUAD: If you see me running, try and keep up"?

I think that should be official uniform, personally.

I didn't know the Greyhound miniT pass, thank you very much for the info! Oh and dude SHOES & the full list

I must add that the list said it was updated but I'm not sure when I know yesterday the alert went down and that some items have been permitted in some places and other places have been more bitchy about the items they are to allow (Carry on & Checked).

Just fly naked.

Unless you're hideous, of course.

That oughta make the lines move faster. Although, if the metal detector still goes off, things are going to get messy.

Yeah I flew home from Heathrow the day before all this happened. No shoe check or nothing, they were really lax. I remember thinking how nice air travel had gotten again.

Apparently, 10,000 bags have gone AWOL in the midst of the airport security BS in the UK.

i flew out of heathrow this morning and i am so glad to be home

to be honest, the lines werent as bad as i thought they would be. they were long and all, but they moved with a decent speed. they allowed bags again today on some flights and electronics as well.

i had packed everything in one checked bag in case i still couldnt bring it, so i just left it there and carried only my money belt and my book onto the plane. of course, i had to leave my freakin eyeliner and mascara in my money belt..grrrr they made me throw it out...well rather i threw it out before they made me because i knew i would have to.

i got patted down and all, but i really didnt think it was a hassle flying out from heathrow. when i came into toronto however, i had to clear canadian customs and then get my bag and then clear US customs...and let me tell you, US customs were not nice...they were very snippy with me and then took EVERYTHING out of my bag, which took me over an hour to fit in, and asked insanely stupid questions like "what's this" while holding up my iPod and "whats this" while holding up my hairdryer and the same to things that were in see through bags. I understand security needs to be tight, but they didn't need to be assholes to me in doing so.

that said, I am sooooooooooo happy to be home!!!
