There's still pieces of babylon left intact?* Wow.. Then it really DOES need to be on the list...
I've seen 13 of them which I find a trifle depressing.* 100 or nothing.* going to egypt helped though... I like the country count matching your age.. brrr, I need 13 more...

Yes, its near the Iraqi town of Al Hillah, a little south of Baghdad. Parts of it have been restored, by Saddam's efforts. He really ruined a lot of history because his motive was just to make it look impressive regardless of historical accuracy. For example, there's original archways that haven't been completely unearthed with a new archway built right on top of it. Wild stuff though, you can see the original bricks from Nebuchanezer that say something to the effect of, "From the power of God I am the supreme ruler and you will obey me." And now Saddam had his own bricks saying the same thing, with his name on it. There's still a lot that has been excavated but unrestored, and you can see mounds that used to be buildings everywhere. The first to excavate it was the Germans, who took the Ishtar Gate back to Berlin. It's been rebuilt in Babylon, and after seeing the original in Berlin, I'll say their remake of it was quite accurate.
And the whole location's just beautiful, very very green right next to the river. Interesting place for sure, especially with the war going on there.

Wow, I've seen 5, which isn't impressive at all, but when more than I would have thought when I started reading the list. Oh well, I'll have a lot more by next summer.

i think that crappy list is just like this years maxim top 100, badly placed! but I have an idea, why not make our own list, just write down the most awsome spots you've seen and/or been.

Wow Omi, only 13? I'm surprised man cuz you seem like you've been everywhere. Maybe you just internalize and reflect on your experiences better than me. Anywho, my number is 20 and about 15 of those were on one big trip. i need to get my shite together.

Jason - nah, WWM's the one who's been everywhere.
I just go somewhat often, but not to the most exotic places
I think I could knock off a bunch if I could get a S. America and SE Asia trip in the works, though. Hrmmmmmm...

Not everywhere...and despite my couple decades on her, I'm only about a dozen ahead of Florencia...yikes! She's gonna beat me in the long run, at this rate. Then again, Omi, we can say we're on the Lifetime Plan. You know...kind of like the 5 or 6 year plan for college...?

I like the sound of that, Mike - considering I was on the 7 year plan for college!
