To actually drive it for so long that its finally conks out. Buying a crappy car and then having it conk out is not quite as admirable. Not that Im saying thats what you did.

I used to have a Vauxhall Nova, and I called her Clover. Then I had to get rid of her, and got a Peugeot 106, but I couldn't think of anything to name him. Now I have a Rover, and I'm thinking of calling it Clover again, but I've decided this car is a boy, and a boy car can't be called Clover.

Anyway, that's enough about my car.

Haha! I had a Delta 88... a bit newer (86?) with the 3.8L pushrod V6 that they had in the Grand National. Too bad it was mated to a granny-soft automatic tranny. I think I broke the transmission at least 3 times just by caning the damn thing too much. Loved that car, though...

Hah! You guys had Deltas, I had a Cutlass Supreme Brougham with the Rocket (!!) Olds 305 V8. It amazingly stopped at every gas station I ever saw!

This thing was so well-designed that Detroit, in order to save weight, manufactured the rear doors with fixed windows, since the extra weight of motors/window regulators would cause it to lose MPG!

That's why my 84 was the last of a dying breed.

It started out with a V8, the 307, which had some balls to it. Mated up to a tough shifting tranny which even had OD, quite the accomplishment at the time hehe.

By the time I was done with it it had a 350 putting down about the same in HP. It had a Turbo 400 tranny because I was snapping all the others. It had dual exhaust and posi rear end. it was a straight away demon and many a times put a lot of vette's, mustangs, camaro's and even a porche or two in it's dust. The car was fast and huge and everything a kid wanted at 16. I had a boomin, and I mean BOOMIN system in it at the time that had 3000watts. The thing was a beast.

I remember one night with 13 kids in that car cruising along. I remember the first time it left the road and my first though was "Man, that must be intence backwards" and then finding out after hitting the same spot at about 40mph in reverse that it was in fact intence, but it cost me my exhaust, rear and front bumpers and two struts. It was okay though cause in the matter of three hours I had two brand new WOODEN struts (Homemade of course from pressure treated wood left over from a deck) and new bumpers from a undisclosed source (I have always wondered what the owner a town over must have though when they came out to THEIR delta one morning with no bumpers

) I remember nights in that car smuggling people out of their houses. I remember the first cop I ever outran. I have about 10,000 memories from that car...

To continue the tradition my brothers first car was the Cutless Supreme. It was an 85 with T tops and the 305. Another beauty.

Rest assured, my Cutlass couldn't get out of its own way. I jetted the carb with a piece of piano wire and threw a cherry bomb on it when the original muffler rusted through. IIRC the rated net HP was around 170 or so. It was big, loud, slow, and most importantly, RWD. I was drifting WAY before it was cool. :D

I hear you about the drifting. I think I had mastered it in a vehichle of its size. I worked at McDonalds when I was a kid and I would amaze them because I would come flying around by the drive-thru windows, spin the car in a 180 and then land perfectly in between the parking spot lanes. it took me a few times to figure out the PERFECT spot to do it, but once I did I was king.
