So it looks like I'm going to be in Amsterdam for about a week at the end of August. I've been thinking about this, and I don't think I've seen it asked here so....I'm asking:

I assume you are expected to buy "goods" at the coffee shop you've chosen to hang out at...what is the stance on going in there and just chilling and/or using pot you've brought on your own?

I've read stories here where people talk about buying 5 grams for x amount of money etc etc. You obviously don't smoke 5 grams in one sitting, and you're not supposed to smoke outside the shops, so then does that mean its cool just to roll up into a shop and start smoking? Would it be considered cool if I just bought a beverage and used my own weed?

I really don't want to offend the staff or seem like another annoying American tourist when I'm there, so I'm mostly concerned about the proper etiquette in these places.

Also, while I'm on the coffee shop topic...

Is it generally cheaper to buy several grams at once than one gram at a time? I suppose if I'm just buying grams at each shop I won't need to worry about the questions above...but it seems like that would get expensive. Then again I'll probably want to try several different strains, so maybe a gram at a time is best.

Any opinions? Is it better to buy in "bulk" or small amounts?

One last question...I doubt this matters...but is it better to bring your own kit (papers, filters, tobacco) to the shops, or is it just as cheap to buy a kit there?
