Friend Going to Italy

hey all. unfortunately i am asking for advice not for myself, but for my single and childless loser friend who desperately wants to go to italy and impregnate an italian girl. he's lucky i love him. anyway, my questions are:
should he fly directly there or to london and then through france?
where should he stay if he's affraid of hostels (he's veeeery poor)?
how much money would y'all suggest he have saved (airfare, lodging, etc. but excluding supporting his little italian baby)?

Well, as far as the flying goes, I'd go with whatever route is cheapest, or whichever will put him on an airline he'd like to fly. Personally, I prefer non-stops, so I'd look for the cheapest non-stop to Rome, otherwise I'd fly into London non-stop and then finda budget airline that'd get me to Italy. Depending on the time of year, getting there can cost from $400-$1k.

Budgeting a trip is the hardest part - for general holiday travel I'd budget around 50€ a day, but if he's gonna stay away from hostels, that'd up the price a bit. If he's serious about finding a woman and staying there, well, he'd best find himself an apartment after getting there!
