florence italy.... being in switzerland you can just go straight south and see parts of spain.... florence is a beautiful small city with amazing architecture, art, and scenery. talk a walk outside the city through the hills.... you will get to see how the locals live plus get a great view of that beautiful city... you can see the city in a little as four hours if you just wanna walk around..... or you can stay a week if you want to go in everywhere..

I went with WWM's suggestion of the Isle of Mull in Scotland and was NOT disappointed. It's not a major party place, but the pubs are warm, dry, and friendly. The local transport is interesting and the scenery STUNNING. We never had a dull moment and even though it rained and rained and we caught horrible colds...we had an amazing time.

The hebredies (SP!??!) of Scotland are rockin'.

Here's another vote for Florence.

And for me, Paris is a definite must. That place just blew me away. Am planning my next trip and this time Paris is a major stop.

Rome - I couldn't get enough of the place. It's a living museum. myself and my wife hope to retire there.

Amsterdam - There's just no city like it.

not considered w. europe but quite accessible - Krakow, Poland. I didn't know what to expect but it turned out to be quite an amazing city.

1. Paris, France
2. Rome, Italy
3. Florence, Italy
4. London, England (though a bit pricy, it's an absolute MUST)
5. Toledo, Spain (haven't been but I've heard great things about it).
6. Madrid, Spain (haven't been, but I've heard its beautiful, and the same goes for Barcelona).
7. Venice, Italy (if you haven't been there yet it's a great place for sight seeing and just get lost in it's little streets and check out the bridges...)
8. Mmmm... apparently I need to travel more to complete this list!!

1. Florence - so I'm hoping with all the recommendations for it, you'll check it out. Here's another recommendation. Going to the top of the Duomo was probably a sightseeing highlight for me.

2. Cinque Terre, Italy - beautiful, and not too touristy

3. Venice - it has so much character

4. Lagos, Portugal - insane party place and really pretty (although Portugal's sort of out of the way from the rest of W. Europe)

5. Barcelona - great mix of history, sightseeing, character, and partying

6. Innsbruck, Austria - nice hiking trails, and pretty little town

7. London - I'll never get sick of that city. I love it!!

8. Edinburgh, Scotland - I think it's one of the prettiest cities in the UK, maybe even Europe.

9. Oxford, England - if you're planning to see more of England besides London, it's neat to see the university, and there's some fun pubs.

10. Munich - a fairly "walkable" city, and really friendly, I found

I haven't seen enough of Western Europe to find 10 cities, but I loved my time in Paris and Berlin.

Barcelona, Spain - Parties, beaches, cool architecture

Rome, Italy - Roman ruins, awsome architecture, vatican, parties.....need i say more

Nice, France - beaches, parties, and you can do Monaco as a day trip from there

Innsbruck, Austria - possibly my favorite place. Awsome mountains and hiking, and really friendly and helpful locals.

Munich, Germany - wicked beer halls that sell the best beer in the world

Amsterdam, Netherlands - crazy crazy place, i loved it

Cinque Terre, Italy - very high up there on my list of favorites, awsome little villages on a wicked coastline with a really chilled out vibe about it.
